Exactly. I’m amazed that once in a while I’ll still come across a moc factory-sealed box lot of potf2 on eBay. I don’t have the stats, but it seems like they massively overproduced these toys.

My theory is people were already getting so sick of Star Wars or at least the direction it’s gone in, and the pendulum had swung back toward nostalgia. People going back to potf bc they hate nuSW but can’t let Star Wars go even though it’s almost as culturally dead as post-1983. There’s probably a minority of younger collectors who never grew up with it buying as part of some facsimile 90s experience they didn’t get to have. A strange, inverted consumerism that prizes old things over new, as if these chunks of plastic were art deco antiques or something.
