>more money to save or extend my trip as I see fit
>if I fuck up like puke hardcore in the room or make an ass out of myself no biggie they've seen worse in the hostel

The only real downside is that sometimes you have to deal with sketchy people but that's usually not a problem if you don't book the cheapest place. Overall, I like them more than hotels, sure I'll still book hotels when I need them but it's hard to beat some of the upsides a private room offers.
