but a big part of the problem the park faced in the book was relying on automated systems and putting too much faith in the sterilization process.

the issue wasn't that the idea is intrinsically impossible, the idea is just really hard to implement properly. you have to observe these creatures and their behavior long-term, you have to test the limits of the sensor system (and at the very least test out what happens when you change the expected number of dinosaurs), etc. to do it right would take decades of work to ensure a reasonable degree of safety.
