At launch it was genuinely a pretty bad game.

>horrible performance issues
>ugly visual where everything looks muddy/granny as hell
>the flag/morale system makes replaying the stages a pain in the ass
>Magic system is underwhelming with very arbitrary limitation like the dependency on Morale, which is botched by the flag system
>cannot swap Martial Arts on Weapons so grinding for the weapons you like with the Martial Arts that you also like is a massive chore
>THEN when you do get the weapons and gears you want, there is no reason to swap it out for anything else because unlike Nioh, it is very easy to upgrade the gears and keep them with you way past endgame
>a lot of the set bonuses at launch straight up just very ass
>a lot of people gave the demo a try and got turned off by it, because the demo's limitation just give an impression of the game being an abomination bastard child of Sekiro's parry system and Nioh's loot system and a very tacked on magic system, which it kinda is, but the combat is a lot more than spamming parry when you engage with the game more than what the demo allows
>not me, but people probably just don't like the Chinese aesthetics the game has
A lot of the game's shortcomings at launch were later fixed with updates and DLCs, but the damage were already done.
