PMD characters are able to emote without gaining an obvious sort of humanity. Most Japanese artists are better at this than Western artists as a whole. For example, pic rel is fine to me. An example of overly humanized pokemon in my next post.

I don't care if that's how they exist in the games, but when you start taking too many liberties with the anatomy or the the design, then I have an issue.
