A few parts of this post need some sources cited, because the timeline doesn't match up as well as a few other issues.

I don't even have to go very far into the game to find something you'd expect to see at least approached differently if 2 teams actually worked on 2 different scripts - it's pretty far out there to expect two entirely separate groups to produce this precise output. Hell, it'd be a surprise if both teams arrived at similar texts at all given how the EN text differs significantly from the JP.

The EN script actually misses out on a bit of early Lloyd-tier characterization by writing it off with the "excuse" line. This is possibly Lloyd's earliest instance of showing that while he's not exactly bright from a book smarts standpoint, he can still make a good point from his heart even if it's flawed as all hell.
