Board: /vr/
"/vr/ - Retro Games" is 4chan's imageboard for discussing retro console video games and classic arcade games.
This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games, including consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games. Retro gaming means platforms launched in 2001 and earlier, and official game titles for those platforms released no later than December 2007 (homebrew console games made after this date will be permitted). The Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and Sony PlayStation 2 will now be considered "retro".

Alien and Giger's impact on pop culture in 80s to about mid 90s Japan can't be understated. What are your favorite games that feature this aesthetic? I LOVE PORTS OF DECADE OLD GAMES!!

HOW TO JOIN
1 - Start a playthrough (any version is fine).
2 - Follow level caps. Level 20 or lower currently.
3 - Keep the community updated on your progress. Pics now.
4 - Battle other players! We don't have to save it for tourneys. Post your battle results and teams in the thread. Trades are highly encouraged. Coordinate with others.
5 - Upload your saves. For physical carts, try using GBxcart or GB Operator to upload your save files. It's not required, but trading will be off the table.
6 - Share your ingame name, trainer ID, and an image of RBY trainer sprite you want and I can make graphics. Use this link as a reference. https://www.spriters-resource.com/game_boy_gbc/pokemonredblue/sheet/8729/

After the 4th Badge: First Single Elimination Tournament
After the 8th Badge: Second Single Elimination Tournament
HOW WILL THAT WORK?
Parsec allows two players to individually batlle and then post results. I will host a parsec session myself after both players give me their saves.
Battles will be conducted on Pokemon Stadium.
If your opponent doesn't show, after one rescheduling, it's counted as a loss for them, a win for you.
Showdown is the fallback if nothing else is doable.
BATTLE RULES

Clauses: Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, No Double Team
WHAT NEXT?
After 1 week, we'll set our sights on Surge. If anyone gets left behind, that's juat how it is. You'll need to catch up - Pokemon isn't too tough, and can be beat in a day or two.
If all players agree to advance to the next badge, we'll so so.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Have fun. Challenges will be posted shortly. Don't be afraid to post pictures. Yell at me if you want any of this to change. Hide the thread if you don't care. Suggest challenges! Discuss and recommend games

Sonic They really went and fixed the issues Prime had with a stand alone expansion pack sequel. How does anyone even go back to Prime 1 now.
I have a soft spot for Sh2, but there's a reason it didn't click with gamers right away and took years to build a following, and it's mostly the early game:
>intro, walk through park, first enemy tutorial
>first weapon: the pank is extremely underwhelming and not fun to use
>have little direction for the city section and easy to get lost
>get to the apartments and it seems like more aimless wandering
>have to go to specific rooms in the right order to get the gun and flashlight (essential to start really "playing' the game)
>very easy to get lost in the apartments or miss one item or not understand some obtuse puzzle
>city scape again part 2
>meet some goofballs
I think the game doesn't really start to roll until you meet maria, and get into the Brookhaven hospital which is more interesting than the apartments.
It just takes too long and is too much effort for the game to actually get going. The Hospital, historical society, prison, abyss, motel, are all really solid. So whether someone likes the game is likely: did they get past the apartments?
Pacing better might have made more sense to follow 1's format: dream fantasy segment, meet the heroine, she gives you a gun and you find a knife, and a flashlight, so you start playing immediately. In SH1, you get all the essential items within 5 minutes, but it's 15-30 for SH2.
Sh3 went in the opposite direction: nothing BUT action. BradyGames got mogged here This is Edea Kramer. Relegated to complete non-entity past the second disc. So misused. What's your favorite point-and-click adventure game? Mine's pic related. Clone Wars edition

Hello everyone, I want to ask
I once played an old-school platform/2D game on my Blackberry. Unfortunately, I don't know whether it was a Java game or something else, or the publisher and developer.
A brief review of the game. In the first stage, players must overcome obstacles and enemies. On the roof of a building, players can obtain an item to fight the enemies. After the stage...After the first stage is completed, specifically after entering the building, the player will continue to the second stage, where the setting is in the last building of the first stage. In this second stage, the player is given the task of raping several girls while avoiding the supervisor who is a grandmother.Just like the first stage, players can also pick up items to paralyze the grandmother.
It was this second stage that I never finished, and I always failed. Unfortunately, my phone broke before the game was finished, and now I've forgotten everything except the first two stages. And the developer's logo is a gecko which I still remember to this day.
I've searched all the archives of old games on the web, but still nothing.
Please everyone Video game mysteries.
You ever wonder where all those logs came from in Plok!? What are some of the most exciting PS2 racing games? Mario Kart 64 got another PC Port:
https://x.com/SonicDcer/status/1940960002786886114
Download Link:
https://github.com/sonicdcer/MarioKart64Recomp
Compatible with the MK64 HD texture pack was this the absolute PEAK of gaming? basically if you had ANY system/pc that wasnt a shitturn (lol) you were drowning in timeless classics that would define entire genres for decades to come. not only that but every platform was so unique from each other which made the whole experience so much more fun. gen 6, NES era and early 90s was great too but for me this has to be the most golden of ages. theres so many other great ones I could list, even the saturn had a few. What determines whether you get a gem or not? Sometimes you get spawned inside of the cage, can collect it and get out, sometimes you land underneath and you can't get inside. There doesn't seem to be a clear pattern. >Traverrer's Tares...We need your help to make a next gen Sonic game for our new Saturn hardware...
>Hmm? Sonic? Your most successful franchise? What a pain, can't you handle it?
>Oh, oh no, we are very busy, very busy, making Nights into Dreams. We cannot possibry make a new Sonic game...
>So you came crawling to us, is that it?
>Hai, hai...When thinking of brirriant deveropers who specialize in speed and cool characters, the geniuses behind Puggsy were naturarry the first who came to mind
>Hmm, well...I suppose it can't be helped.
>Arigato! Now, will you make it a 3D game, taking advantage of the next gen hardware?
>Ehhh...what a pain...isometric is good enough for Sonic, don't you think?
>*mops brow* Of, of course. Very well, I will report back to Sega with the excellent news.
>Oh, and before you go, don't forget, Disney entrusted us with Toy Story, you know...
>*bows furiously* H...hai! Hai, Puggsy-sensei!
How did this happen? this game is a lot harder (and spookier) than I expected. Im starting my file over again as i didnt realize you get no fucking ammo in this game and Im already screwed, i have nothing but my knife. am I supposed to just run past everything? use my knife? aim for headshots? why do some zombies respawn and others dont, is there a way to know? I end up getting fucked when I try all of those strategies. is the game easier for first timers with chris? I always go for the waifu choice.
the note from the groundskeeper was kino and I enjoy the 90s VA. discuss re1 ps1 edition. Do you guys have arcades or local fighting game meetups in your area? Do you play on original hardware?
There's a comic store that recently opened up in my town that has all kinds of vidya nicknacks and I've considered asking them if they'd be interested in hosting Street Fighter locals, only problem is I don't play the modern stuff and I'd be hard pressed to find people in my small town who wanna play 20 year old fighting games. Post clones that were superior to their original games.
For example, Road Rage mogs the shit out of Crazy Taxi So is playing this really like dropping acid? Post retrogame ``````Common Knowledge''''''
>Miyamoto hated DKC and Yoshi Island's visual style was his direct response to the CGI graphics
>Iwata showed up at the last minute to the development of Pokemon GS and somehow compressed the game to half the size which made it possible to fit a whole other region into the game
>Raiden in MGS2 was Kojima's idea of what the audience looked like and a way to mock them (Apparently we were all rather handsome in his eyes) and people hated not playing as Solid Snake so much that the game sold billions The NEO•GEO Advanced Entertainment System. A quantum leap forward in video entertainment. If you have not played it, get it now and do it. Make sure you get a copy of the map and read the 5 chapter novel. I've set up multiple different Gen 1+2 playthroughs, made a ton of custom graphics, made up different challenges the players could do for cool rewards, set up tournaments where everyone's Pokemon levels are synced up...I even offer to convert and transfer their Pokemon from Gen 1/2 to Gen 3, but it always kind of fizzles out when people get busy with work. I mean, I get it, I work 45 to 50 hours a week too, but I think what I'm offering is fun enough to squeak out an hour into.
Anons, if you were able to participate, would you? Why, or why not? It's Friday. Let's celebrate with a retro ads thread. So I impulse bought a Genesis with Sonic 2. I ordered Shove It the Warehouse Game on ebay. What are some other high level kinos I should look into as cheap entry price games? I know want Mega Turrican and Thunder Force but those are more for down the road. I don't really want Contra Hard Corps because of how Konami fucked it up for the American release, I would rather just emulate a modded version, kind of the same with Castlevania Bloodlines.
I just beat Majora's Mask for the first time and I have to say, I loved it. I don't get a lot of the criticisms about it being an "expansion" of OoT or overly reusing assets, it definitely feels like a complete game with its own identity and even has plenty of new assets, new characters, new enemies, etc alongside the reused ones. This just may be my new favorite Zelda game and I really wish more games in the series took after it. From the abundance of sidequests and secrets to find in a densely populated world, to the much shorter and more satisfying dungeons that present a fun challenge but never overstay their welcomes (as so many Zelda dungeons often do), to the more intense combat with enemies and bosses that actually make you think about how to fight them and make you react quickly (Garo Master sticks out in my memory a lot in this regard).
Wind Waker and Twilight Princess added more combat abilities, but they never felt necessary because all the combat was made so much easier and the enemies so much slower and dumber. If they had actually built upon MM's more demanding, fast-paced combat and made more enemies that force you to use all the tools at your disposal they could have made something incredible. Maybe they thought it was just too hard, so they scaled it back in later games, but I loved it. What the hell were they thinking?

Previous Thread: >>11828931 I think I finally played through every FPS on GBA I wanted to play.
But first let's start with the 2 that I didn't beat.
>Medal of Honor - Underground
What a piece of shit. This isn't even alpha material. Literally the worst FPS I've played, but at least I finally found something that de-throned Congo on Saturn. There isn't a single thing right, the engine is a slideshow of pixelated mess even when there is nothing going on, at times there are entire lines or blobs or glitched pixels popping out or architecture flickering; all objects (enemies, pick ups) are barely recognizable messes and even when you get close you realize they have glitchy pixels of the wrong colours. Not even the weapon sounds are correct. This looks like a "you have two weeks and then we ship, I don't give a fuck" situation.
>Wolfenstein 3D
It's a good port but ever since I discovered versions of the game with projectile based weapons added in, I don't feel like playing a version without them anymore. Maybe one day. this game music is more street of rage/yuzo koshiro than 8-bits sonic 1 What about the gamecube Animal Crossing makes it so much better than the later iterations? I just can't seem to get into any of the later entries other than Wild World. Everything about the first one just keeps drawing me in and makes me play the game in either short bursts or long sessions and both of them feel productive and fun. I fire up New Leaf or New Horizons and I just can't get into it at all despite it just objectively having more gameplay elements and more customization and furniture options How mindblowing was to play Metal Gear Solid in 1998?

>Try to keep things /vr/ related: Focus should be on 6th Gen Consoles and older. Slight off topic is fine so long as it's related to CRTs, such as later 16:9 models, HD models, etc. Systems with backwards compatibility are also safe territory, as are re-releases on newer hardware. PC CRTs are also welcome and appreciated.
>Produce OC! Bust out your camera and take photos of your CRTs displaying all sorts of games, featuring all sorts of tubes, using all sorts of signals. Getting good shots can be hard, but if you take enough, at least a few will turn out alright.

Limited discussion of video processing and scaling devices is alright, but remember to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories.

You’re interested in retro games because they are more pleasant and warm/cozy by association and the history of gaming is fascinating. But when it comes to actually playing retro games, with the exception of a handful of undisputed greatest titles, you can’t play them for more than 10 minutes because most hasn't aged well. But you still like reading and hearing about it a lot How do Save States work? How do emulators know to save your exact same position in game? Should I bother playing this or is it just shit?
Also, not really /vr/ but is the Daxter game on PSP better? You are transported back in time to 2001 and are placed in a position of highest authority within Nintendo. What do you do to make the GameCube a success? What was Medievil's 'fatal flaw'?

MULTIPLAYER SERVERS
US West: https://clovr.xyz/
CA/US Midwest: https://macgu.fun/ I was looking to play this series. Everyone seems to have a different favorite. I was thinking of trying either Magical Melody. Is there a better one and why is it better? >Supple amount of continues, almost to a point where you don't need them
>Farming lives just by being thorough can usually grant you 5 lives before you hit anything major
>Fire and Laser, while are not Spread, can fuck up specific enemies and setups. Like how Laser in 3rd person stages basically one-shot turrets (Fire is useless here), but Fire is great for the over-head bosses, and can be okay for Waterfall (is shit for the tank sub-bosses and level 7's boss where's stray shots from the regular Machine Gun or Pellet shooter is more reliable).
I guess the biggest flaw is the final level is a bit easy, but it's almost a victory lap. >first game in a series is also the best
People don't understand how fucking good it was. No game like this existed that genuinely terrified you. You grew hair on your chest just by playing it as a kid. I think Seiken Densetsu 3 (also known as Trials of Mana) has the best pixel art for a 2D top-down game and is one of the best-looking SNES game.
There might be 2D games that look better with side-scrolling graphics or such, but I think when it comes to top-down, SD3 is the best.
Feel free to prove me wrong (provide pictures). TR: Anniversary feels just as tricky and platforming dependent as the original/remastered. I missed so many jumps in Greece. I'm on the second Egypt level now and like it a lot. Just bought pic related. What am I in for? ITT: retro vidya for furfags I'm at 99%. All gems, all HuCards. I believe I'm missing a single health pick-up, and I have no idea where it is. If I've combed every level and found every gem and HuCard, but I missed a single health pick-up, it must be hidden somewhere totally whack.
Any ideas? Why wasn’t Linux seen as a competitor to Windows in the gaming sphere, similar to the console wars during that time? What stopped it from challenging Microsoft’s throne as the de facto OS for PC gaming? What are the best GameCube games that are either GameCube exclusives, or have no PC or Wii ports? I've bought a 64 GB SD card for my Wii and I want to fill it up with GameCube video games. Is it better to buy an used GameCube controllers, a chinese knockoff, or a Wii Classic controller for GameCube games? I'm currently forced to use Wii Remote and Nunchuck because I have neither of them. >game has no names for its level
>half the guide call the level "forest temple"
>other half call it "catacombs" or "necropolis"
I fucking love old games where you have to interpret things. How many GB do you need for your NGC Was the GameCube mini-DVD really an excellent anti-piracy system? >Here's that video game you wanted, son! I can't see shit: the game. Jokes aside this was pretty good but damn does the combat suck, I get that it's a survival horror game but at times fighting enemies made me really fucking annoyed. So do you guys like Kuon? ITT: Times you went from "This game is cool. Why it isn't more popular?" to ""Oh, that's why it isn't more popular."
For me such game is Septerra Core. Cool setting but once you play more the sluggish combat gets annoying quickly and the game often surfer from "where the fuck I'm suppose to go now?" problem. How mind-blowing was to play games online on consoles in the early 2000's? Which port had the best rendition of the music from SF2? Papriumbros, it's over...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QaBYuRwcDs Who was the target audience for this? post cool screencaps from games you've played Watashi tachi wa uchi ni morutaa kombatto ga imasu! Previous thread: >>11823645
Rules of the thread are simple:
>You can only talk about games and systems made before the US release of the NES (1985). Everything before it from the CRT Amusement Device to stuff like Marble Madness and Kung Fu Master is cool here. Later and homebrew ports for Pre-NES games on Pre-NES systems are allowed (e.g. Jr. Pac-Man was released in arcades in 1983 but the 2600 port came out in 1986)
>That's it.
I'm currently holding a poll on 2600 games you'd recommend to newcomers. The results will be made into a little pastebin. If you'd like to contribute a vote or write in a game here's the link: https://strawpoll.com/XmZRQv2X3gd
What's your favorite Pre-NES microcomputer? For me it's the Atari 8-bit computers when it comes to games and the Commodore PET when it comes to design. I fucking love old computers with built in monitors. What are some other good retro JRPGs that are user-friendly/accessible to people who don't normally play JRPGs How easy is it to repair GC controllers?
I've read several reviews of the aftermarket stick caps that they have some sizing issues (like they're too tall and don't fit under the front shell very well). I don't know where to find replacement stick modules either. Why do Tony Hawk skating games rule but Dave Mirra BMX games suck? How do you make 4:3 look presentable when using an emulator on a fixed pixel display? In Retroarch Snes9x, my options seem to be
>ugly non-integer scaling on the horizontal axis, or
>ugly smudgy bilinear filtering?
Putting a CRT or NTSC shader on top isn't a solution as far as I can tell, I can still see how the imaged was raped by the scaling.
Strangely, Nintendo's official SNES emulation on the Switch looks perfectly fine in 4:3 mode to my eyes. I don't know how they do it. It has a filter of some kind obviously, but it doesn't smudge the image nearly as aggressively as the bilinear filtering in Retroarch. How can I achieve that? What made the Ninja Turtles so popular in the 90's?

Nowadays they just use boilerplate physics engines Ken Kutaragi said everyone at Sony thought the PS1 would fail when it was first pitched
What went so right with the PS1? isn't it weird that Mario is like the worst character in his own game (this one being Super Mario Bros. 2)
just like Donkey Kong was the worst character in his own series, the DKC trilogy.
idk if the developers thought about that or not, they really did make the title character the worst character in his own series.
i know you may say:
> oh, what about Toad? He's terrible.
no. Toad is the fast one, the fastest and smallest, so he can fit in between obstacles easier. Toad's easier to manuever.
Mario is the boring one who has no special power.
Luigi jumps the highest. What was the best looking PS1 game? i want to beat the fuck out of whoever designed the final level
aboslutely sadistic faggot Is this the worst mainstream next-gen controller ever released? How was Nintendo okay with this?!? Shit is gonna give me nightmares >drops one of the hypest fighting games of its era
>disappears
Why'd they do it? Was the Dreamcast and its 200Mhz SH4 CPU and whopping 16MB of system memory really impressive in 1998? Are there any pc-98 games worth playing outside the old touhous and policenauts? Untranslated is fine too, I'm looking for more moonrune practice. >"uh, ackshyally he didn't kill them, they are alive and we're bringing them back because we have no balls to kill the characters off"
That was lame Drol
whats the point? can you even die if you just keep firing a volley of bullets down the corridor? seems incredibly repetitive and easy but supposedly it was the influence for sega's Flicky Why did Thelas need so many pillows? I understand that the later home console copies didn't have Charles Barkley on the Phoenix Suns because Acclaim lost the rights to his name and likeness to Accolade (the makers of Barkley Shut Up & Jam)
Cedric Ceballos would've been a better choice to replace Charles Barkley on the Suns roster for the later copies instead of Dan Majerle.
thus, Phoenix still would've had a guard-forward duo instead of a two guard duo. Oh shit, look what just dropped:
https://nebulous.group/index.php/projects/translations/hybrid-front/#cmtoc_anchor_id_4 25 years in the making, this is what we get. Holy Hell you guys! The new updated DOOM for the snes is about to go on sale from our bois over at Limited Run.
Check it out, standard gives you a box, game manual and even a cool poster for $100.
but the collector's edition gives you all that and a certificate of authenticity for $175! (new rumble controller not included)
What you think about this? Worth getting? this is pretty much the only way to beat virtua fighter 2 in arcades. they released it knowing that fact very well. >be I
>tell mom I want Bomberman Tournament for my birthday
>get this instead because the tlatire didn't have Bomberman and this "looked similar"
>It is gay
>Christmas comes
>Asks for Bomberman
>Mom says she already got Bomberman for my birthday and she isn't buying it again
>Never got Bomberman Were the Scooby Doo games from this gen really as bad as people say? Constantly see this game heralded as one of the greats, at least one of them ends up on every 'top RPGs of all time' list. Seemed like required playing, along with Xenogears and Wild Arms. Yet my reaction with this game is exactly the same as my reaction with those two games: it's just another fucking jrpg. I can swear I've already played this. Admittedly I'm only 20 minutes into the game but that's all it took. I'm wondering if I should carry on with this probably 80+ hour game. Is anything here unique or worth pushing on for?
Man been a while since i dropped a game, i saw in a thread about how New horizons is such a good game so i decided to try this one out and holy shit does it get old fast.
The beginning is harsh but completely manageable even if i lost some money buying fucking grapes or something, then when you get the hang of it (and with that i mean buy art once) you start making money and the game actually becomes pretty fun, exploring the world actually feels harsh and you really need to prepare for the worst to come, getting trough Asia the first time was a great time and i became rich after i got back to mainland.
After that tough? Now you are a errand boy for the king, need to track down some random Turkish fucks and worse of all battle them in that mild battle system that tries to be realistic but manages only to be no fun at all. And worse of all you have to do like 12 errands before you can see the ending after the good part is already over.
All that said, does new horizons fix the battle system? Is there more to it's endgame than running errands? I dropped this but i actually had a good amount of fun for the limited hours it was about sailing and not about fighting random pirates.
I want to write up something to hopefully be helpful to people new to playing old systems using my own experiences and mistakes, and what I personally own. Including the cost of quality flash carts and ease of modding, how would this board rate a front loader NES, Genesis/MD model 2, N64, Wii-shaped GC, PS2 Slim, and DS Lite-shaped GBA from least to most worth getting for someone unfamiliar with navigating this stuff? The scam awareness portion is also pretty barren, with what I've written amounting to "filter eBay listings by sold for accurate prices, be patient, ask for more pictures if you're not sure, reference authentic carts, avoid anything cart-based if you don't want to bother with flash carts or learning how to spot fakes, don't ever touch chink marketplaces, and never buy a fake even if you know and are okay with using one." It feels pretty barren, similar to the part where I try to put into words that 4th-6th generation Nintendo games are in a price bubble and generally not worth buying. I know what I want to say but it keeps coming out awkwardly when I type What's the best way to play these? I'm mainly split between SNES, PS1, GBA or PSP versions. Could the demise of arcades -in the West- have been delayed somehow? how would (You) have SAVED the arcade scene? I've fucking HAD IT with Sonic 2
>Great first 3 zones
>Really feeling it
>Casino zone ruins everything
Absolutely shit zone in every game This is the best NES game of all time. Prove me wrong. Pro tip: you can't. Rare cart from any console.
Pic unrelated Would you go to Chuck E Cheese's new nostalgia retro arcade concept targeted to adults? In the Grandmaster Ending of Wizardry IV, Werdna—the villainous protagonist—ascends beyond good and evil, beyond gods and mortals. The game essentially rewards the player for mastering its brutal mechanics and obscure puzzles by letting Werdna transcend the game world itself. The ending text reportedly reads something like:
“You have become one with the cosmic forces. You are now omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. You are the game.”
No gods, no masters—just pure, self-realized intelligence. It’s the kind of ending that feels like it was written by someone who just finished reading Nietzsche and then coded a dungeon crawler in a caffeine haze.
Wizardry IV may well be the first to canonize that kind of cringey-glorious sentiment in a game ending. And it did so in 1987, long before the internet gave us the meme version. It's time!!! Time to bicker and squabble like children over a dead 90's franchise that's never coming back! :)

What are some of the most persistent memes, falsehoods, or bullshit stories you hear about old video games?
For me, it's "piracy killing the Dreamcast meme"
>Sega had already fired 1/3rd of its workforce by 1999
>By 1995 they had so much unsold inventory of Genesis and Game Gear games they were having to waste money buying back
>This inventory buy-back and early Saturn launch soured relationship with retailers
>Sega was so in the shit, Bandai offered to buy them in 1997
>Sega also gets into a lawsuit with 3Dfx for an early design of the Dreamcast that 3dfx leaked to the public (sega paid out of court settlement)
>The CEO who spearheaded Dreamcast development, Bernie Stollar, is fired for selling the system at a money losing price ($200)
>The system's launch in Japan is a failure, mainly due to a chip shortage from NEC
>PS2 announced by March 1999, offeres built in DVD playback and back compat with all PS1 games
>In 2000, Sega had to pay settlements to employees for abusing them in Japan
>By Summer 2000, Sega still has millions of unsold systems in their warehouses
>coincidentally, in June 2000 is when the first games get cracked
>they aren't self-booting
>this at a time when most are still using dail-up
>not even half of the library is available to download
>most of the rips are shitty
>games that the 1 gig GDROM capacity have to remove assets to fit on a CD
>yet somehow, "piracy is what killed the Dreamcast" in January 2001 after they've spent years losing money on Saturn, pissing off retailers, paying legal fees, and firing staff
How does anyone still believe this meme? Are they retarded to all the shit Sega had going on even before Dreamcast launched in 1998? Do they not understand how stupid it is for a company to leave the HARDWARE business when they were dealing with SOFTWARE piracy? Retro music that sounds like other retro music
Raging Mountain in Threads of Fate sounds a lot like Besaid Island in FFX How the FUCK am I supposed to get good at the Streets of Rage games on the Genesis?
Played 4, replay it a lot, fucking love it. Went back to the old games and while I can beat it I have to use continues and I am getting rekt. WHY IS IT SO SCARY, I really really liked system shock 1 and was excited to try this and now I think I might drop it from how unnerving it feels to play I don't think I ever feel safe anywhere and it becomes really stressful
I really wanna beat it and like it since I really did enjoy OG system shock but I really hate horror I own an N64, PS1 and Sega Saturn. The Sega Saturn has like 3 decent games and some good light gun games. That's it. I barely touch my Saturn.
The PS1 has a huge library of games ranging from good to amazing.
The N64 has about a dozen gems and its games are very unique.
The Saturn just kinda sucks. And I say that as someone who loves Sega and wants to love the Saturn. How massive was the launch of Halo 2? What was the experience like back then? And what made it so special that it attracted more attention from normies than major blockbuster movies? Shao Kahn will always be the coolest final FG boss to me
>Bison is cool but has his weird body transfer fetish
>Geese is badass but ultimately just a crime lord
>Heihachi is a lesser Geese despite having more worldly power
>Rugal is in between being cool and stupidly OP
>Krauser is cool but generic
>Gill is just a male stripper with gay body paint
>Shinnok sucks flat out
Shao Kahn is just so badass, a barbarian samurai, yes he's naked but it's in an alpha Manowar way not diaper way like Gill >Famicom release date: July 15, 1983
>Master System release date: September 1986
Why does it seem like this thing is only slightly more powerful than a Famicom? Ah just like I remember it Kitana would easily kill Chun Li, and this is because Chun Li is a grown woman who puts up peace signs and giggles Why are there so many infamously bad Windows PC ports? how were 7 year olds in 96 supposed to figure this out? even with all the clues its far from easy or obvious. the only letter given to you is the l, the r and s have multiple spots they can be. Im pretty sure I didnt even have a conception of what pearls were when I was that age. even as a fully formed adult this was too difficult. >the defining PS1 mascot game
>gets one spinoff, one sequel, two disappointing anime series, and a handful of mild references
>then dead for a quarter-century going
What went wrong with the Parappa franchise? Discuss anything involving modding your PS2, from softmods to hardmods, Homebrew, what kind of loaders are you using right now or help with burning discs if you still use those. What do you think about Jet Set Radio? This was my favorite Spider-Man game until the PS1 game came along. This thread is dedicated to discussion on retro battlestations, this may include discussion on hardware, cable, and furniture topics and optimization strategies. Are there any Amiga exclusive video games? Are fan HD remasters of games with 2D backgrounds true to the original creator's intent? Since the assets made to use these backgrounds are gone, are we left with just accepting low resolution upscaled backgrounds? Gotta choose just one, /vr/. What's the best Sonic Advance game and what's the worst? Anyone else a true YNer through here? It’s infinitely more convenient than (especially for 2KKI) updating the file versions constantly. https://pastebin.com/u/GCCXGeneral Akira Kitamura has opened a blog on patreon detailing his career as well as lent his personal design documents for Rock Man to Capcom to display in their museum and to host on their sites.
I think this whole thing is an attempt to set the record straight. But I don't know if patreon blogs is the best approach: videos or books would be better. It'd be neat if he just wrote a proper book on the subject (in both Japanese and English).

-What truly makes a puzzle good or bad?
-In your opinion, what makes games like Tetris so popular? Were developers simply more talented back in the day? Yep, this is the best console ever made It's that time of the year again to put 150 hours into beating all the campaigns on hard. How do you know if the price is right >*blocks your path*
you have 45 sec to tell him about the last Dreamcast game you played... or else...
David? Who gave Solid Snake that name? Being a clone he had no parents to legally name him. So who did? What is the in-universe Lore meta why his non-classified government paperwork lists him as David? Yes obviously everyone has a name, even Solid Snake but who was the fatcat who ultimately decided to name him Davey in 1973 when he got cloned? Sounds like a pretty big responsibility for you, for me, for anybody! I sometimes wonder if Snake merely pretends his name is David after MGS1 bc he loves Otacon so much that he feels some sense of a social debt of honor to his nerd bro thus decides to troll him by allowing him to believe their names merge to form a 2001 Space Odyssey joke. Like what if Otacon's real name was Wayne? Would Solid Snake lie and say his "real name" is Bruce to grant Otacon the happiness of believing their names merge to form a Batman joke? What if David isn't his "real name" at all? Personally I think he carries the name David pretty well all things considered but does Snake have a last name maybe? Thoughts? Also why does Solid Snake love movies yet his dad hates movies?
t. Born in 1989 beat MGS1 the year it launched on PS1 as did all the cool kids in my neighborhood and at my school. Then when I was only 11 years old I already figured out 9/11 was an inside job orchestrated by the Bush Administration 2 days later on 9/13, which I probably wouldn't have realized if I hadn't already beaten MGS1 beforehand. Truth is stranger than fiction, as a kid life felt like a video game on 9/11 from my POV like what if Foxhound stole 2.3 trillion from "the good guys" the day before Metal Gear nuked an elite American city or something, you know? For me? In the implausible hypothetical situation that I had a time machine, the only thing I'd truly wish to change is Metal Gear Solid 2's release date! from November 13th 2001 to September 10th 2001. That would literally be a dangerously BASED timeline in my opinion which I would not want it any other way personally
