This is patently wrong and obvious to anywho who's played both. The English PSP ports have significantly worse scripts, direction, gameplay, graphics and music.

Falcom's early-to-mid 90s output is significantly higher quality than their mid-to-late 80s one, so this is a prettyy baseless and moot point.

I've played A Cagesong of the Ocean, but honestly, I didn’t find it very interesting. It does include some developments that serve as the basis for the story in White Witch, but that's about it; I don't have much emotional attachment to V. It lacked the profound feeling that White Witch and A Tear of Vermillion (the PC-98 version) had, and gave me the impression that maybe the development team had changed.

Hayakawa was definitely involved in the textual style of A Cagesong of the Ocean (and had nothing to do with AToV for Windows), especially the character lines, but the problem is that I suspect that there's a new person in charge of the plot, and the structure and pacing of the narrative is not as good as in the previous two games. The literary beauty of Hayakawa's writing are beyond the reach of Takeiri's and Kondo's. Cagesong, in a way, feels more like it connects to the atmosphere of Trails in the Sky that came afterward. Well, Trails in the Sky was ended up being a success, and it seems like Falcom’s management turned around because of it, so I guess that’s a good thing. Still, I preferred Falcom in the 1990s.
