That's not actually how it works, anon; you can't actually punch the projectile. But it's peculiar, because many people tend to consistently misinterpret what's happening that way, to the point that even the fan wiki describes the boss mechanics like that; the "problem" is that it's actually pretty easy to get lucky and win without realizing how you're doing it (happened to me the first time I beat the boss).

Anyway, what's actually happening is that the projectile ~~tracks your fist, so you need to punch towards the boss to alter its trajectory and make it hit him instead of you~~.
