A lot of it is just that I hate the fat mechanic, and how they added hidden caches of food that have no purpose other than to fuck you over with the slow and worthless fat debuff. I'm also not a fan of the new weapons, as they are pretty underwhelming, and their placement just feels really haphazard (especially the horrendous drop shot).

The only sections that MSX improved that are actually good are the run to the Slug with the aliens chasing you (although the fat shit can again ruin this section), and the last part of the lab with the aliens (the optimal strat in MS2 is basically corner shooting, while it's more dynamic in MSX).

But Stage 1 is just awful, all the fat shit in stages 2-5, the constant worthless dropshot pickups, the rocket well section, the red chopper on the train that is awkward to fight, the Slug before the sewer that totally trivializes an otherwise challenging and memorable section, the Slugnoid that trivializes the sewer section, the run up to the base is a lot less interesting as you just spam Iron Lizard, and the final boss that was an extremely difficult and memorable fight in MS2 feels way easier in MSX (most people might like this though, as MS2 boss can be extremely challenging if you haven't routed a bunch of grenades and don't use the first phase to prep your weapons).

A lot of the changes just feel unnecessary. The performance of MS2 was obviously terrible, and presumably they felt like they had to just throw a bunch of changes in to make it seem like MSX wasn't just the exact same game but with playable performance. But one nice change, at least in the AES version, is Slug Attack rebind, which finally allows you to actually jump and shoot in the Slug without worrying about accidentally triggering the worthless Slug suicide attack.

But with modern emulation you can play MS2 with absolutely no slowdown, and I would also use autofire, especially if you're playing on pad, and the experience is night and day better.
