I'd say the core of a good puzzle is it's ability to engage players. If a puzzle is too doesn't teach mechanics, is hard to understand, or can't properly interest players in completing it's challenge it become too frustrating.
>In your opinion, what makes games like Tetris so popular?
I'd say, it's numbing simplicity and competitive aspect. Along with being at the right place at the right time with the GameBoy.
