Both are the same game on the same version (51.xx). The free version uses ASCII as a tileset (but you can mod other usermade tilesets and graphic packs)
With the premium version you pay for a premium tileset + premium OST + access to beta branches and steam integration (if on steam).

Fort mode siege mechanics changes, rework and general spice up is the next update. Hatches and doors no longer stop invaders, and constructed walls vulnerable comfirmed so far

What is it for you? And I'm not just talking about rts games. It just happened that all my examples are from rts. What are your hopes and unrealistic wants for the rumored remastered? I'd like some kind of "mercenary" mode, where you make a party of just generics and are free to fight random battles and possibly join battles in the War of the Lions. I'd also like some sort of late game system where you spend lots of money to permanently raise a character's attributes (health, magicka, physical attack, etc), because deleveling and releveling is obnoxious. Something like special training available at the Warrior's Guild. How in the everliving fuck do I actually learn this game? I can't make the smallest damn sense of how the economy works. I start with a decent working thing, but then a few years into the game all the starting factories combust, go bankrupt, I have 90% craftsman unemployment and the cash reserves go up the wazoo
So how the hell do I even do anything?
The worst part is that there's all these mods like HPM or GFM or HFM and I have no idea which advice can transfer between them. Or which of them I should be using. It looks like Oxygen Not Included, which I enjoyed while learning the basic, but it found it really boring after you pass the initial set up phase. Talk about new mods, mods you're hyped for, etc.
CTS: campaigntrailshowcase.com/campaign-trail/index.html
NCT: newcampaigntrail.com/campaign-trail/index.html How come Broken Arrow is the only war game that decided to use a modern day setting, instead of a cold war gone hot scenario Meanwhile, the best fantasy RTT game got a fan-made remaster. Its great. I've played every major recent Paradox title, from EU4 to HoI4, Victoria 2, CK3, Stellaris. They all have aspects which are fun, a lot of it being linked to the many different paths to take.
But Victoria 3 has never hooked me. I feel like I'm just following what the screen is telling me to follow. I'm short on a particular trade good, well I just need to build a factory or import it. The journal is telling me to do something, well I better go do it. The population becomes radical if I don't become liberal.
I feel like I'm not in control. In every other Paradox game I can do what I like. If I feel like colonising as the Ottomans in EU4, I can, and I can give my own names to the colonies too. If I feel like making a dynasty and spreading it across the world then that's possible in CK3. But in Victoria 3 I don't see that same replayability. It feels very restrictive.
So how do people have fun playing this game, /vst/? Recently bought this on Gog having not played it since its release.
At the time I thought it was ok but was surprised how much I enjoyed playing it after all these years. Graphics aren't bad, gameplay is fun and the single player is neat and it captures the Warhammer Fantasy feel well. Also doesn't take forever to install unlike TWW3.
Any other MOC fans around? Is this a strategy game? Is this like Dwarf Fortress but easier to get into. Maybe it's like Factorio? What is this genre called and is this a good game https://www.ageofempires.com/news/pre-order-age-of-mythology-retold-immortal-pillars/

+ QoL patch for the main game and some minor balance changes.
Thoughts? As much as playing as the big guys of history the likes of France or Rome is fun in its own way, I'm allured to civs that were less of main characters. Ones that weren't so lucky iirl or had every odds thrown against them. Stuff like playing pagan tribes in CK2, Welsh in TW:Medieval, Hittites in civ3, Bohemians in AoE2 and, if we're going into even more fictional territory, I did enjoy making American Dakota kingdom from Rushmore county surrounded by natives in CK2's mod After the End. I guess I just like going against odds and history. Making empires from the bottom than repeating already existing ones.
What's your opinion? Do you have any underdog/obscure civ you're always happy to turn into powerhouse whenever you have occasion? Post mercenary units in strategy games, they can be your favorite if you want. I'm trying to get into this game, any beginner tips would be appreciated. Im sorry to say this but Paradox in 2025 is not the samme as it was in the early 2010s. Meaning that this game will not feel or play the same way as EU4. If you played games like CK2, VIC2 or Hoi3 you can probably relate. Im not gonna get bogged down in the details but these modern iterations of these "classics" games just feel like cheep imitations.
I also want to highlight that Paradox Interactive has become a very politicized company. They no longer approach history in a neutral way, but instead they tweek history, change the name of historical cities/areas, retcon historical men of great stature invent women of history and debuff nations who historically had greater military/political advantages. They would probably claim that this is because it would be easier to get more people to buy and play the game. But that is not what strategy games should be like. Not every one will have a fair change and RNG should favour the ones with the greater stats, not the weakest. Im sure that the OG developers that left Paradox probably said the same things and thats why Paradox waited over ten years to announce EU5 all the while ruining EU4 with all the terrible updates and lackluster DLCs. My bet is that the executives probably knows that that the upcoming EU5 is going to be shit and will most likely become another dud for Paradox Interactive (hot take, i know)
I can just imagine that EU5 will be a retelling of the greatest historical period of european history only it will have a modern political correct lense. I won't get into a discussion about the details but i'm sure that some of you will understand what i'm referring to.
So in short, I won't be purchasing this game or any other games Paradox releases anytime soon. The last SC2 tournament
ASL group selection soon This is my introduction into the series and im loving it but im not 100% sure i understand how to bring patricians to my settlement.
How the hell do i get spices? Am i supposed to use dates and the nomads to settle lower islands for copper and gold? I dont see any spices. Are there any cheaper alternatives to picrel? I really enjoyed Stellaris but the dlcs have gotten way too expensive.
I really liked the kind of customization/roleplaying that Stellaris had with its create a species/empire, quest system, and diplomacy mechanics, so any alternatives that match those would be much appreciated.
>"Just pirate it dude"
No. So what is the best strategy game? Not sure if this belongs on /vrpg/ or /vst/ but I'm looking for more good trading games like taipan and elite, especially ones with turn based combat. >be me
>heard about how cool and DEEP is this game
>check the AAR (After Action Reports) of veterans
>cool RPG stories (dragons, bloodlines, secret societies, adventures, arms-brotherhood, etc)
>tried out the game with all its DLCs
>it's boring and slow af, I can't do anything, no adventures nor crazy quests/events
>just PTSD from the constant notification pop-ups about some irrelevant thing or stupid character did stupid thing
What people do to get those cool stories?
What secret, obscure mods I need (I check workshop and the mods are meh at best)? Wargame Warno Steel Division
I'm having a lot of fun in warno What's the best strategy game that has Platinum rating on ProtonDB? Every game I search up has Gold rating or lower Is this game any good? I was looking at playing it with the Invictus mod because I like the time period. play it and post screenshots Now that the upcoming Graveyard of Empires DLC have rolled out the contents that Iran, Iraq, India and Afghanistan will receive, what are you thoughts on it? And with GroE releasing soon, does this mean that we will finally get/be a step closer to a full-on total rework for China and an expansion for the Pacific Front/Southeast Asia?

Previous: >>1993893 let me know if you like them Time to talk about the most popular and unfair franchise about defending Earth from Aliens. Why does this game fall so flat?
I had decent hopes cause I liked Syrian Warfare a lot, and gave it a lot of time in case launch was buggy to get tuned up.
It's just a mess its hard to believe the same people actually worked on this game. A lot of the discussion about the game talks about it being hotshit hard, but I just found it a grueling disinteresting slog in missions like Vega and Chihuahua than necessarily challenging.
Unit weapon choice priority and the LoS somehow worse. The equipment system blends so shittily into the actual battles(Unable to loot primary weapons, unable to pick up and take equipment without putting it into a slot etc).
Half the game is spent shooting Human factions with more manpower and equipment than most countries.
Supplies and manpower are super plentiful even on hard difficulty if you hit the side objectives.
Am I missing something, is there more value in the game in the DLC or the late game missions? Solar Nations 2
Brought the game, played for 90 minutes or so to get the hang of it.
The premise is what I always wanted: grand strategy about first steps as interplanetary civilization. Execution however, is questionable

Despite this, potential is clearly there
So, Solar Nations 2 thread What we thinking about this? Fucking slop or kino? UI looks like actual dogshit. Yeah I took a phone screenshot fuck off and get an actual life if that bothers you mate. Post rts mechs and armored suits what is a good rts to start with if you've never played the genre? something with a lot of replay value and preferably modern weaponry(explosives/nukes if possible) What are we thinking bros?

Tinto Flavour #17 - 13th of May 2025 - Vijayanagar & Indian regional content
Hello, and welcome one more week to Tinto Flavour, the happy Fridays Tuesdays & Fridays in which we take a look at the content of Europa Universalis V!
Today we will talk about three topics: the generic content available for most of the countries in India; the unique content of Vijyanagar; and other regional content available for other Indian countries. A meaty TF, so let’s start without further ado! anyone play hollywood animal Are steam versions of xcom any good for modding?
reason i'm asking is there's a big sale on one of the game-selling sites, so just wondering if it may be worth getting.
We don't have an official steam or discord group. If anyone posts in the thread about any "official" or not steam or discord groups, promising MP or not, be sure it's a shitposter group known for organizing raids and shitposting in the thread. Anyway, thoughts on this old game, why there aren't more games like it and why, against all odds and reason, the people making games like it are following Majesty 2? We must gondinue building gommunism I pirated CK3 and want to use commands but when I couldn't open console panel. How can I use commands instead? Logistics, Atmosphere, Kino. Fuck that specific spot edition
Thread to discuss Graviteam tactics and Combat mission games and others like them.
Any of these are good, I mean, damn wild crazy good? All I want is FUN. Do they still hold up? If not well... what games do? I've acquired "some" strat games on gog over the last decade or so but had little time to dive in but that was the past and now I do have some extra daily hours and currently gettin' a little nostalgic here.. also it's gettin' on my nerves that I didn't enjoy 'em properly but who cares, that's just me.
Anything goes, I'm up to it, I can face challenges and dig into "new" stuff, no personal favorites, any subgenre is welcomed. Where do I start? Any personal favorite/memory of yours or any stuff you still play? If so, tell me; maybe it's sitting on my backlog. Yeah I know that some of these are quite popular but the "$" thingy is just a purchased games tag of sorts or whatever.
On top of my head I can list some of my personal unusual favorites from back in the day – if that helps:
>EU for the glory
> distant worlds 1
> the nations aka die völker 2 (german classic)
> startopia
> c&c tiberian sun
> war wind
> black moon chronicles
> combat mission
> close combat classics
> industry giant 2
> seven kingdoms 2
> etc
If some open source engine or whatever is required for optimal gameplay under windows 11 lemme know. Thanks! >sunday

Game's just had its One Year Anniversary, and the roadmap for the game looks to be promising if fullfilled:
>One Year Later – Here’s What’s Next for Manor Lords
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1363080/view/573753783490708647 Can he help me in strategy/tactics games? I just got into this game a few days ago and so far it's very good. it satisfies my XCOM 2 craving. I've never seen this game mentioned on here, how's the rest of the game? it has some funny racist references I've noticed sp far These types of fake-history flags in wargames are very annoying. How many years have to pass before we can move past protecting redditors from having to confront reality? Plus anyone with a modicum of taste swaps it out for a historical flag mod. No one cries about the commie flag. Oh yikes, a hammer and sickle… I’m going to literally starve myself to death in a self-imposed gulag. I could literally die! ITT games that filtered you due to their pathfinding.
I love everything about this game. Yeah, even the graphics, being the first 3D RTS gives it quite some charm. But holy shit, is the unit pathing making me want to burn my PC to fucking ashes. And I don't even want to imagine how bad it was when it came out, considering I'm playing the "new and improved" open source version. Anyone remember that Aurora 4x C# source code leak from a few years back? I lost all my files, anyone still have it? Why aren't we talking about this? Prior to the 1.0 update there was literal silence for months but it's now back baby. I realized I barely played the first one so I am going to play through that first.
Door Kickers general I guess? Thoughts so far? Discuss. >100s of cold war gone hot games
>not a single red river gone hot game
explain this /vst/.
also other nothingburgers conflict that could make for good games -Can someone enlighten me on what is happening in redusk , i heard the devs are taking so long to update that shit i even saw comments calling it like tno , and things like " YOUR MOD WAS SUPPOSED TO DETHRONE THE TNO", and also calling the devs lazy This little game has recently exploded in popularity, about time we had a thread about it
>What is lines of battle?
Its a (deceptively) simple online game about Napoleonic warfare, you try to build an good army with the points you're given and fight your opponent in simultanious turns. Basically its an online version of a 19th century Kriegsspiel.
>Why should you play this?
The game is free and requires no download
The matches are short and sweet
It has an active multiplayer community (max 1 minute to get into a match)
Its very addictive once you get the hang of it and suprisingly complex
The dev is rapidly improving it, he just added some new units and 2v2 matches are coming soon. Their games should be illegal. They’re more addictive than heroin. I just spent 7 days in a row doing nothing but siting in front of my computer for 14 hours every day playing Crusader Kings III and I’m not even halfway through one game yet. Johan won, Europa won, White people won
Wiz, troons and DEI lost How to use Navy in Hearts Of Iron 4?

Tinto Flavour #16 - 9th of May 2025 - Brandenburg & Prussia
Hello and welcome one more week to Tinto Flavour, the happy Fridays in which we take a look at the content of the super secret Project Caesar Europa Universalis V!
Today we will be talking about Brandenburg, and the main tag that it can form, Prussia. Therefore, today is even more special for two reasons. The first is that this is the first country that we talk about in which the content for the base country and the formable is aligned, as it was the historical result; in this category we have a few more important countries, such as England/Great Britain or Castile/Spain, of which we’ll talk more about in future TFs. The second is because we considered Brandenburg/Prussia one of the relevant tags in the period, and thus, it has more baseline content than the previous one; so far, we’ve only taken a look previously to one tag of that category, the Timurids (and you may have noticed that it was a long and meaty TF).
Let’s start now taking a look at the content, then: I'm a HOI4 and CK3 normie and I always thought EU4 is 2hard4me, how do I enjoy this game? >mfw eu4 has to restart the entire fucking game every time you return to main menu
it didn't even used to be like this, it started happening after an update and was never patched.
paradox is a money hungry negligent shell of what it once was It's simply the best TA-like RTS out right now, nothing else can compare. Do any of you guys play the Eador Genesis New Horizons mod?
https://eador.com/B2/viewtopic.php?t=4732 >that guy who gradually expands his base across the map, effectively laying siege to the enemy with towers, walls, and heavy units
I know it's you. what would this timeline's hitler think of terterobians, if he didnt end up being one?
Like if a horde of nomadic turks settled in southern germany during the 11th century and became their own distinct ethnicity would future german nationalists, (had they not been butterflied out of existence) hate them? DLC edition
