>inb4 Czar and his simps shit up the thread again This game is comfy, watching the little ship blips zoom around the galaxy is oddly fun. But anyways, I'm having trouble with getting my research up. I try and spam explorers to uncover areas I can put down research stations but that seems extremely luck dependent. And then by the time mid-game rolls around, the AI somehow has double my research points. Are they just getting lucky and finding more research areas or what?
Also what are some good ship designs. There are like 5 weapon types and so little weapon hardpoints, its hard to know what to put on my ships. Is it best to mix, or go uniform? >mogs AOW4 with less budget Oy vey ladder legs edition

>>1969264 How do you have more than one fun playthrough in this game? I want to learn to play EUIV. I only have 22 hours which is nothing for a paradox game. I've only started to scratch the surface. What advice would you give to someone just starting? It looks very intimidating but im willing to put on the hours in it. Is it any good? Is it worth the current price in the sale? I recall enjoying 2 and 3, but when I look, I only played them for 20 hours each, so I guess not that much. Does this one do anything that makes it worth getting if you already own 3?
>just played CiV again
>so much fucking drama because Washington started settling too close to me so I had to invade him early
>then the Ayyrabs started converting my cities to Islam and wouldn't stop when I asked so I had to invade them too
>everyone else calls me a warmonger and Germany leads the charge in sanctioning my shit/declaring war on me
>especially Japan which keeps bullying one of my city state allies and bragging to me about it
>eventually join up with Catherine and Xerxes when they both start adopting the freedom ideology
>start getting friendlier ties while beelining to heavy artillery and rocket launchers
>hell march on Japan and America, wiping both off the map
>wait, why is Germany so quiet lately
>satellites researched, revealing at some point France and Russia invaded his autistic ass and reduced him to just one city
>but what's this?
>fucking Catherine has been quietly speed running the space race and is 2/3 done
>her and Napoleon are now invading Xerxes, who has been good to me throughout, while turning hostile to me and threatening me with nukes
>They're both too far away to start invading
>put everything into tech and scientists and gold so I'll have enough to buy ship parts instantly because again freedom ideology
>manage to get my ship launched just in time
Literally nothing in Civ 6 has ever come close to this and I have zero hopes for 7 whatsoever. The franchise is just city simulators now. What are some of the best and/or unique chain economy strategy games? What I mean by this is something like
>I need a lumberjack to cut wood, so that would will be cut down to planks in a sawmill, and those planks can be used to produce X in Y building, which can be used to produce Z
Games I that feature what I mean:
>Stronghold series
>Widelands
>Dwarf Fortress Will apparently come out during Q2. Trailers make it very reminiscent of HOMM3 but in 3D and with two upgrade paths for each unit. >"Oh, aye, it were me cousin—aye, me cousin, not me, I swear it! He seen a feller, bold as a badger in a henhouse, swipin’ up a piece o’ armor so grand it gleamed brighter than moonlight on a frost-kissed night! And wouldn’t ya know it, off he scarpered leggin’ it straight for the mountains yonder, to the northeast, sure as me ale is warm!"
>go there and fight camp
>legendary equipment is a light 130 defense "famed" armor Is it good yet?
Is it fun?

or as a paid premium version on Steam or Itch.io
>What is the difference?
Both are the same game on the same version (51.xx). The free version uses ASCII as a tileset (but you can mod other usermade tilesets and graphic packs)
With the premium version you pay for a premium tileset + premium OST + access to beta branches and steam integration (if on steam).
>What is next?
Fort mode siege mechanics changes, rework and general spice up. Probably around may-july(copium)
End of Lua beta and merge into the main branch

like i know the old ones were not the best but damn compared to this , they should never listened reddit. Time to talk about the most popular and unfair franchise about defending Earth from Aliens. Why aren’t you playing Xenonauts 2? How do I git gud? I took Drassen then as soon as I get to Alma I'm getting assraped by a bunch of powerful guns and armored enemies that I can barely tickle with my pistols, smgs and shotgun. Any games where you can really go multi-layered with diplomacy to pit factions against each other? "If you (raise or lower tariffs on/cease fire with/gift units to) countries that (buy resources from/invade/mock the leaders of) (faction), we'll (share technology with/re-open trade with) (unrelated faction)" You could go layers and layers deep making geopolitical affairs ridiculously complex and confusing as you call everyone's bluffs and ruin global affairs to your perverse advantage. Good luck to whoever has to write the ai for it though.
Pic not related Do any of you guys play the Eador Genesis New Horizons mod?

so I guess the sequel is pretty much dead yeah?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZdm5YX3k-E https://youtu.be/Zn6ZBqFJQ7g Does anyone else get massive, aching boners from capturing cities in strategy games?
Everytime I capture a city in Civ 5, I vividly imagine my Aztec army raiding the place, killing all the men and raping all the women until they succumb to our strength and become aztec-worshipping sluts.
Just me? Endless Legend 2 waiting room and Endless series discussio what's the official peer reviewed /vst/ consensus? Is this still the peak of it's genre? Logistics, Atmosphere, Kino. This little game has recently exploded in popularity, about time we had a thread about it
>What is lines of battle?
Its a (deceptively) simple online game about Napoleonic warfare, you try to build an good army with the points you're given and fight your opponent in simultanious turns. Basically its an online version of a 19th century Kriegsspiel.
>Why should you play this?
The game is free and requires no download
The matches are short and sweet
It has an active multiplayer community (max 1 minute to get into a match)
Its very addictive once you get the hang of it and suprisingly complex
The dev is rapidly improving it, he just added some new units and 2v2 matches are coming soon. The base game for Anno 1800 is currently at a discount, costing 6 Euros.
Is it worth getting the game as it is? >dude demons are coming you must flee to cumlimdor
>we will be safe from the demons there?
>no they will follow you
>then why not make our stand here where we have our castles and armies?
>the green dudes who tried to genocide you last two games will help out
>…
>plus elves
>we already have elves in Lordaeron
>these are feminist elves with a magic tree Now that the upcoming Graveyard of Empires DLC have rolled out the contents that Iran, Iraq, India and Afghanistan will receive, what are you thoughts on it? And with GroE releasing soon, does this mean that we will finally get/be a step closer to a full-on total rework for China and an expansion for the Pacific Front/Southeast Asia?

Any of these are good, I mean, damn wild crazy good? All I want is FUN. Do they still hold up? If not well... what games do? I've acquired "some" strat games on gog over the last decade or so but had little time to dive in but that was the past and now I do have some extra daily hours and currently gettin' a little nostalgic here.. also it's gettin' on my nerves that I didn't enjoy 'em properly but who cares, that's just me.
Anything goes, I'm up to it, I can face challenges and dig into "new" stuff, no personal favorites, any subgenre is welcomed. Where do I start? Any personal favorite/memory of yours or any stuff you still play? If so, tell me; maybe it's sitting on my backlog. Yeah I know that some of these are quite popular but the "$" thingy is just a purchased games tag of sorts or whatever.
On top of my head I can list some of my personal unusual favorites from back in the day – if that helps:
>EU for the glory
> distant worlds 1
> the nations aka die völker 2 (german classic)
> startopia
> c&c tiberian sun
> war wind
> black moon chronicles
> combat mission
> close combat classics
> industry giant 2
> seven kingdoms 2
> etc
If some open source engine or whatever is required for optimal gameplay under windows 11 lemme know. Thanks! what the hell IS a monarch point? What happened with the latest Protectors update? Is it so bad that the thread had to die here as well? What's the best Total War game for a beginner? It's disgusting how paraslop consumers became conditioned into considering German HRE as something fundamentally different than other monarchies.
Parliament of princes, cities and clergy? Many monarchies had it.
Elective emperor?
Poland had massive elections with thousands of small nobles gathering and voting.
Vassals acting as de facto independent entities? Happened all the time with all monarchies around Europe. For me, if they ever made a TWM3, they should make an expansion pack like Kingdoms set in renaissance era Italy.
If they decided to make another fucking standalone spinoff feeling game i'd say Total War: American Civil War would be cool. Which game/mod should I download if I want a somewhat realistic experience of what it's like to be Deng Xiaoping, Kennedy, De Gaulle or Putler? Frozen synapse was basically the last novel idea in strategy and tactics games. Everything since then has just been a rehash of an earlier idea, possibly while cramming it into the roguelike form. Disagree all you want, but you're wrong. Playing EU4 with friends and a few randoms, we are looking for extra players for our games.
How do you get people to join your game that won't ddos or just cheat in 1 million gold? >Overwhelmingly negative
Lets talk about Hearts of Iron IV's newest DLC, Graveyard of Empires. Is it really that bad? Is stronghold Crusader the best game in the stronghold series? Time to talk about a franchise that is slowly dying. Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 remasters and source code now! I am top 10 in toy soldiers multiplayer for Xbox 360. I also hold all single player records for each level in both TS1 and cold war. AMA. Is this actually happening anytime soon? I stopped following the other open source project when i found out how many changes they did to the game. Fuck that specific spot edition

I remember playing 2 and having a good time, but reviews seems to show that 3 is iffy and 4 is a shitshow. What do you think?
How come the best controls in the RTS genre is present in a niche community-driven game and none of the "big" games come even close?
> Units are not dumb, they can actually kite and dodge.
> You can easily order them to stand as a line and not as a blob or a predefined formation.
> You can order your units to keep a formation while moving.
> You can order your units to attack everything in an area (not to confused with attacking ground in the area).
> You can order your units to retreat if they lose too much health (and they will even use their special movement abilities like jumping to leave the battlefield asap).
> You can order your units to avoid cheap targets and focus on the big ones.
> You can order to infinitely repeat an order in a building (this one is more present in the genre, but still somewhat rare).
> You can automatically add all newly built units to a control group.
> You can order to move through an exact path.
> You can order your transport to automatically move your units from one point to another without manually loading everything (I guess supreme commander does this?).
> You can add a task in the beginning of a shift queue.
> You can add a task inside of a shift queue and it will automatically place it in a place to minimize walking.
And the average RTS won't even allow you to zoom out enough to see everything. play it and post screenshots >shit talk chud mod for months
>finally try it out as a meme
>fall in love with it
fuck this gay earth What is your favorite game in the "failed Civ killer" genre? Back then there was an obvious successor to Total Annihiliation- Supreme Commander. This was then followed by Planetary Annihilation. So there was a clear line of succession.
Now?

How can a game produce these kinds of fun scenarios after nearly 15 years from its release date? Because the Remake sucks, I implore anyone curious to check out the original ROTK8 for the PS2 instead. Today is Kaiser Willhelm II's 166th birthday.
Happy birthday Willy! Talk about new mods, mods you're hyped for, etc.

If you see a gibberish post, it was made by raiders, report and ignore it.
No, Vic 3 is not good yet. In fact it never will be. Neither will EU5.
How fares your empire, /gsg/?

What witchcraft is this? Why would you ever not join ATO or CSP? There's literally no downside as long as your country isn't a mess As trite as it may sound, this is a genuine question. Have SRPGs developed significantly within the last 25 years? Can we look at the landscape of the genre and believe we've come far since the days of Tactics Ogre and Front Mission?
If you have an argument for or against, lay it out here. katowice soo-ACK!
It's over Why do these guys get meme'd as "the science faction"? They don't feel like a hotbed of new inventions/techniques, and nothing they did was particularly unique compared to their neighbors. What strategy games have actually GOOD trade mechanics? Not just have them, but they're interesting and well thought out.
I've been trying to think of examples and other than maybe Distant Worlds came up with nothing. >tfa demo releases
>no thread
What the fuck, I'm going to be generous and assume people are actually playing vidya instead of complaining about a beta demo being incomplete, so let's change that
What makes strategy such a stagnate category of games? Most subgenres haven't been meaningfully innovated in a decade at least, and are often dominated by a single company.
>4X: everything has been superficially modifying the Civ 5 formula since Civ 5 came out
>Grand Strategy: Paradox reselling the EU4 formula in different packages again and again since 2013
>RTS: dead genre since the 00s, except Eugen releases some reskin of Wargame every couple of years
>RTS/TBS hybrids: Rome Total War is the first and last meaningful development here... 20 years ago
>City Builders: somehow Cities:Skylines was the only real advancement since Sim City 4 for modern ones, and historical city builders are in an even worse state
This isn't for a lack of necessary improvements. Most strategy games are plagued by horrid AI and buggy or non-existent multiplayer options. An inability to simulate much of anything is often held together by narrative elements. Entire time periods and forms of strategy are left out of most every game released, to the point even halfassed implementations are seen as unique. Economic simulation is almost always primitive, despite being the basis of all strategy. How did it get this way? Their games should be illegal. They’re more addictive than heroin. I just spent 7 days in a row doing nothing but siting in front of my computer for 14 hours every day playing Crusader Kings III and I’m not even halfway through one game yet. ITT games that filtered you due to their pathfinding.
I love everything about this game. Yeah, even the graphics, being the first 3D RTS gives it quite some charm. But holy shit, is the unit pathing making me want to burn my PC to fucking ashes. And I don't even want to imagine how bad it was when it came out, considering I'm playing the "new and improved" open source version. >Total War: Star Wars refers to a rumored upcoming video game, reportedly being developed by Creative Assembly, which would combine the "Total War" strategy gameplay with the Star Wars universe, potentially allowing players to command large-scale battles across different factions within the Star Wars galaxy.
lol RTS games that have actual fun combat / upgrade systems? like how bloons made tower defense gameplay fun. I find there's a naive fun in watching little guys beat each other in a RTS, and upgrade paths actually make me interested in the game. not so interested in memorizing keybinds and the competitive side of things. European Escalation is the best Wargame title for its singleplayer campaign.
Red Dragon has more variety and QoL, but something was lost in the shuffle ITT: strategy games that you and only you have ever played >Playable nomads are coming to CK3.
>Confirmation of playable republics in 2026.
We're back folks. The only question is what's next. > hear about this game called Myth
> this looks absolute dogshit how can anybody play this shit
> install all the patches and make it work
> order dwarf to attack some creature
> throws a bomb, explodes both himself and the creature
hey this is fun! What is it about the Pike & Shot Era that intimidates strategy game developers so much? For discussion of all Age of Empires games, from 1 - 4, to Mythology and Online

Project Celeste fan project is still alive and kicking Better Stellaris in your path. The American's won't stand idly... What are some games with good diplomacy? Not just in terms of options but the AI having distinct personalities while being reasonable. So this just came out. What do I feel about it? this one came out of nowhere and yet another masterpiece from Vanillaware. Just about 60 hours in and I'm not even 20% done. the story is cliché but it's great simply because of that. you're basically exterminating evil from the world and rebuilding. there's just so much content it's unreal.
here's a tip, put a Priestess in the back row behind a Lord and 2 archers in the back row on each side of the Priestess, ez pz >What's my favorite Civ game?
>Alpha Centauri Hearts of Iron 4.
>DLC: Gotterdammerung
"intercontinental bomber" when, I research this i was actually expecting to unlock an intercontinental airframe that had a high cost but a long range but it's like they took a plane pre-designer and just slapped a new name on it.
I was extremely disappointed, I wanted to make intercontinental cas or naval bombers.
