World of Warcraft killed rts in 2004 because it allowed players to live in the high fantasy map if they wanted. The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth and Armies of Exigo both released that same year 2004 with LOTR getting a sequel. DOTA and it's break from WC3 also killed rts because there is no longer a need to log into WC 3 to play. I think Relic nailed the market with Warhammer and CoH. I would give my left nut to play Majesty 3 from Paradox or a Fallout Tactics 2 from Bethesda.

You seem to love high fantasy game worlds. If you can get closure that high fantasy is a dead horse genre being beaten by AAA companies you'll love Relic and Paradox games. I've been bored with elves since 1999 Jeff Vogel article told me so and always looked down on people who enjoyed playing elves, as they were also short irl no pun intended. If I made a rts today it would be current or neo punk post apocalyptic with no or limited building.
