Well, for one, they're dogshit.

More specifically: some stuff you do generates "legend seeds", meaning some sort of claim or achievement around which you can base the medieval equivalent of a PR campaign. You can then pay to send people to toot your horn and build your reputation, which is shown as your "legend" spreads over the map much like a plague. The areas where the legend spreads usually get some bonuses, and upon finishing, you usually get access to some big bonus depending how much you spread the legend.

Some make some sense, like attaching yourself to the legend of King Arthur lets you get a claim over most of Britannia, but most of the procedurally generated ones are crap. Also, as your legend spreads, you get a slew of nonsense events with CK3 style "why would I ever fucking pick anything but this one choice?" options and the game fills a chronicle with a completely incoherent narrative of your legend.

It gets worse as you realize the sheer number of these you get to the point where you can spam them all the time until they feel completely meaningless as a concept.
