I'd like to think that the magic faction has a relatively strong early game, since spellcasting can be done with a sapient being, like infantry. This also hinges on their attack (casting) speed, because they'll dominate with having chantless casting regardless of the matchup.

Drones. Also having the edge to have faster and accurate attacking than the mages with guns. Otherwise, Modern Weaponry can open with a Weapons Garage fielding their Armored Cars (with their choice of scouting, gun, or missile drones) to tank and return fire to mage formations. Hopefully this provides healthy escalation wherein Magic fields their Earth Dragons, and Modern Weaponry responds with Main Battle Tanks, and then Magic fields their Fire Wyverns and Modern Weaponry can go for either Attack Helicopter or their Air Superiority Fighter.

Honestly, would love to see a Magic Era equivalent to the Space Race, or the Vietnam War, or the Gulf War, or even the theoretical (hopefully never-gonna-happen-IRL) Third World War.
