Probably Lina overall. I like a fire mage, I like that she can be built to have high right click damage or nukes, she's tough to lane against, and she can work as a support or carry or whatever. My teammates never coordinate their picks so Lina lets me fill any role to make up for their poor planning and still transition to a strong hero late game that's not pigeonholed into anything in specific. Even semi-direct counters against Lina like AM or Spirit Breaker can be prepared for by simply building a decent amount of tank to waste their time while your team tries to kill them.

Prior to 7.00, Bane was my favorite though because his ultimate shut down heroes so hard. In an era where one or two heroes typically got most of the farm and were far and above the biggest threats on the enemy team, a hero that could stun someone through BKB for 8 seconds was amazing.

Really early, my favorite hero was bounty hunter though because he was conceptually very fun. Stalk the map invisible and murder people who separate from their team, earn lots of gold doing it.
