Another factor that must be removed from the answer is that many manga artists are young and their art style is not fluid. Stan Lee and Ditko were already established older artists and had strict character design guidelines to keep the look the same. Many manga artists in contrasts were still growing up and so their drawing styles continued to change until they finally entered a period of stability. For example, manga artist Oda of One Piece had wildly different drawing styles from when he started One Piece and where he is now. This drawing style also influenced the changing character looks of the anime which strived to match the looks of the manga at that period in time. You'll have to remove such changes that give manga a feel of constant change whereas USA comics from DC/Marvel don't seem to change the looks of their established characters.
