That’s how I see them. They are a little different than normal people. It’s their presence, you won’t notice it if you’re distracted. But if you pay attention to them for some reason you will get a feeling that they’re not normal. It’s a dead giveaway if they’re in their contemporary garb (the unironic disco guy, a man’s man in a trench coat / suit / fedora, a woman in a Victorian/ Edwardian corset). If you notice them half the time they notice you and it gets weirder. If they don’t notice you it’s likely they’re a repeater (a memory stuck in a loop). The ones with some minimal amount of consciousness can be almost as nuanced as a normal human. Some will talk to you, ask you if they know what they are or where they are or ask you why you’re staring at them. I’m American and mostly see the ghosts of white people who died in the last 150 years or so, Native Americans rarely if ever show up. Most ghosts can chat for a bit but seem to disappear suddenly too. I’ve seen them disappear in front of me mid-conversation. I can’t explain or prove any of this but this is my experience with spirits.
