Do you think Lucas purposely fucked Star Wars before selling it to Disney so he could buy it back later at a fire sale price, (who else could they possibly sell it to?), and then erase all the bullshit, fix it, be a hero to nerds again, and make a kablillion dollars? Midichrlorians was a poison pill he built in that he could easily erase from canon, but knew Disney would be too stupid to - and lack the original creators authority to anyway.
