Board: /n/
"/n/ - Transportation" is 4chan's imageboard for discussing modes of transportation like trains and bicycles.
What do you prefer, /n//?
To add accessories to your bike as much as possible, or to keep it as simple as you can, even to the point of removing bottle cages and even brakes in the case of fixies?
What do you think of modern bikes (and specially in "gravel"), the trend towards adding bags, in the handlebars, top tube etc, versus just throwing your shit in a backpack and calling it a day.
I can't say I like the looks of bikes with bags and all, but I do hate the lack of praticality of a bike with nothing on it at all. I dislike saddlebags as much as anyone else but I'll be damned if I ever leave the house without a spare tube. These guys passed you on the last big hill before the cafe. Didn't even take pulls.
What do you tell these Freds to not seem mad? Helicopter crashed in Hudson river. 4 dead 1 in critical condition. Looks like rotor came detached from fuselage mid flight. I need help. I'm a fat fuck (~260lbs). A while ago I had bent some 20+ year old aluminum 27" wheels and still haven't gone around to straighten them out and buy new spokes. I went to a bike shop and the guy was really weird about not letting me take a picture of his disassembly tool and saying that I would only find it from the manufacturer if I were a special boy, but later saw a chinese copy for like $2. What would you /n/iggas do?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTJ3taJHOn8 Robinson's newest helicopter just dropped. The R88.
Thoughts? An entry level new bike, that is agreeable to ride, not dragged down by antiquated standards like QR, that you won't regret buying, nor immediately feel the urge to swap out half the components because of cut corners, cost approximately USD $1500 at standard retail prices as of late 2024, give or take a few hundred (depending on the finer details).
Now, the prices are going to go up by at least 20%, and the smaller independent brands are going to go under as only the largest players will have the spare cash to ride out the sudden loss of consumer confidence. The most interesting and original bike products will simply disappear from the market permanently until the next wave of prosperity (which may be entirely concentrated somewhere far away and foreign, so that only the wealthiest of your peers will be able to import and use such goods).
How does that make /n/ feel? LOOK (don't touch) edition

This thread is for talking about railways, and things related to railways, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - that means we're all about big intercity trains, modest rural trains, long freight trains, trips, tracks, (deep breath) trams, subways, stations, and a partridge in a pear tree~.
If you're unfamiliar with train travel, take a look at National Rail's journey planner, at nationalrail.co.uk/ - tell it where you're travelling from and to, and it'll show you a few options before handing you over to a train company so you can buy a ticket. For the same journey, they'll all charge the same price, so it doesn't matter who you buy one from. The best option for overseas visitors would be to use thetrainline.com/ - it'll support your language and payment card.
Here's a few links:
~The Man in Seat 61 (seat61.com/) - easily the best rail travel resource out there.
~A Visual History of Railway Rolling Stock in Great Britain (gaelan.me/br-stock/)
~Geoff Marshall (youtube.com/@geofftech2) - likes trains. Mostly harmless.
~Jago Hazzard (youtube.com/@jagohazzard) - London train history. Ditto.
...and some cool 'open data' stuff:
~Realtimetrains (realtimetrains.co.uk/) - live train timetables: ideal for keeping on top of ETAs and platforms.
~Openrailwaymap (openrailwaymap.org/) - not quite 'Google Maps for railway infrastructure', but close.
~TIGER (tiger.worldline.global/home/) - live station departure boards.
~Traksy (traksy.uk/live/) - live signalling information.

standard cabs were the peak of american railroading and i never got to see it :( Is there still a fixie subculture anywhere out there, or am I showing my age? Im still enamored with the whole “fixie punk” aesthetic. Considering jumping back on social media is there are still people doing this. But I realize its a niche subculture from the early 2000’s thats been made fun of since day 1. It is said that if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Are you one of the good ones, /n/? Do people say you're not like those other cyclists? Let's discuss bike tires here.
>tfw after two years and ~6,500 miles on it, it's time to replace my rear gatorskin because I've gotten two flats from tiny shards of metal within the past week
Quick flats from minor shit is always my sign that it's time to retire it, it's also peeling in a few spots. I have rotated it before this, last May.
I know you guys meme them here, but I've only used GS on my bike, these were my 6th set. I was going to try the Continental 4 Seasons because I heard it has a nicer ride than GS for not too much worse flat prevention, but a seller on Amazon was selling a GS pair like new in packaging for $68 so I couldn't pass it up. This is my only bike for everything that I use almost exclusively for commuting and transportation >front derailleur and a second chainring are soooo heavy! we must remove them in the name of efficiency
>how are you going to climb now, you ask? don't worry, we'll just put four more sprockets on the back, three of them larger than the one you got on the front
>also fuck your chainline, buy more of these fancy expensive thin chains
Casette race is getting ridiculous. Everyone should go back to 2x9 and never stray away from that. How do I make hills easy? I want to strangle every single big buck roadie fred and especially every single downhill-bike-in-a-park pomp who rides around just to do chainsaw sounds with their bicycle's very very expensive hub. "Give way, the asshole is coming!". Like, if you wanna make motorcycle sounds, get an actual motorcycle. A Harley actually sounds cool. A freewheeling bicycle sounds supremely annoying, and also means you are a weak shit who is not pedalling. Fuck you, go ride into a river. Disasters never have one root cause and neither did the destruction of cycling. But I know some important milestones in the decline and fall:
1. COVID 19. Enough said.
2. Full suspension mountain bikes. Enough said.
3. Reddit. Enough said.
4. Twitter. Enough said.
5. British "people". Enough said.
6. The d-tch. Enough said.
7. The state of Utah. Enough said.
8. Zwift, Peloton, "Spin Class", and other cancer. Enough said.
What were some other key moments? Is it the blimp trains time to shine?
Could this be used to get Ukraine grain to the rest of europe?
They have different rail gauge between rooskie and EU tracks but blimp can be handed off with out even slowing down
THIS CAN WORK???!!!!!!!
BLIMP TRAIN HOLEY ROLLER
RIDE ON THE BLIMP TRAIN
BLIMP TRAIN SAVE THIS COUNTRY
AND MAKE IT WHOLE AGAIN
Now Im on the edge of something
Wondering bout the blimp train
ooooohhhhaaaaa eeeeeaaaaahhhooooaaaa
Talking bout the blimp train SS United States to be sunk, creating the world's largest artificial reef. RIP to one of the greats. How do we stop the piper on cessna sexual assault epidemic? Got this used bike for my son, issue is the crank is very high and for him to ride without his knees bending too much I need to out the seat very high, but then it's uncomfortable especially when he stops because he can't reach his feet on the ground.
I'm pretty much convinced to get another bike for him since this one was cheap, but what kind of bike is this? Why is the geometry so weird? what's stopping you from building and flying your own flying machine?
So I've been trying to plan a /n/-themed trip to visit family in Yurop and I had a few side destinations in mind. Passo dello Stelvio perhaps or the Alpe d'Huez or Col du Galibier or d'Izoard. Nothing obscure or weird just standard /n/ itinerary... or so a naive person like me would think?
So let's see. Train from Major City A to Major City B? That will be 17 hours and 4 transfers and oh btw there's no HSR because you're not travelling between Paris and London. And then when you get there there's basically no public transport! You need to learn Al Bhed so you can talk to the local Zastava rental agency and the steering wheel is attached wrong and you need to learn how to use a carburetor and pump gas and there's four pedals (gas, brake, clutch, and prop pitch) and a mixture control lever next to the turn signal, what the FUCK.
Why did /n/ lie to me? Europe is cager hell. I was led to believe the entire continent was spammed with a hyper-efficient grid of fareless, open-gangway maglev subway trains that could whisk me from a tiny fishing village in Denmark to a mountain pass on the Italo-Swiss border in fifteen minutes. I'm a 'merilard I don't have all summer, I get 5 days of vacation and 2 of them are lost flying back and forth, my summer is ruined now. What does /n/ think of tomorrow's upgraded, more inclusive bike lanes? Cagetrolls will hate this, but I for one think it is perfectly reasonable for bike lanes to be open to any vehicle that doesn't have an ICE or require a Class A CDL to operate legally. What's the point of bike lanes if nobody is going to use them!??!? This stuff is ancient but I hope that it wasn't posted here before:

>That cylinder is a mass dampener also known as a J dampener in physics. The purpose is to neutralize high frequency low amplitude oscillations.Mass dampeners are currently used in Moto GP and were banned in F1 in the mid 2000s.The mass dampener can also be placed on the fork, above the bottom bracket and as shown on the rear swing arm/triangle on a full suspension bike.
have these been used on road bikes yet? i have a stiff track bike fixie, anything that could improve performance or comfort would interest me. i haven't paid attention to bike stuff lately so idk if it has been mentioned on GCN/GMBN yet. GCN has done a lot of videos on tire pressure so i could see them experimenting with tuned mass dampers. How many of you still use friction shifters?
I'm not a rich man, so I ride old used bikes, and I never have had an issue with these simple machines. I appreciate them for their simplicity and seldom do they need service or adjustment. Friction shifters get called outdated or bad or whatever all the time, if you feel that way, why? Do you wear a helmet while riding your bicycle? *whistles tune* *SNAP* ACK! >get salary
>urge to spend it on a gravel bike becomes unbearable Road signs. What do you think of them? Which country does them the best? Would you change anything in the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals? Ocean liner fans rejoice! The Queen Mary reopened for hotel guests in May and in June, I had the privilege of spending two nights on board. I'll be uploading my album of the ship over the next few days and discussing the history of the ship that I learned while onboard. Have you ever been on a blimp?
Would you like to be on one?
Would you like if they did a comeback? Newfag here. I live in rural Texas, a few miles away from town, and want to start riding a bicycle to town. Maybe I'm just a coward, but any advice to stay safe? Most of it looks like picrel and the speed limit for cars is 70mph for most of it. There's a few miles where there are no backroads to avoid this. Is it safe to ride on the shoulder? I have a helmet and a high vis vest, is that enough? What does /n/ think about the german concept of the Fahrradstraße?
>speed limit 18mph/30km/h
>bikes can ride side by side all the time
>cars are not allowed to overtake
I think its a perfect way to deal with traffic in big cities. The cars are not discriminated against and just have to deal with slower speeds.
I dont see any cons with that. Both Newark and Atlanta with ground stops at the same time due to equipment issues. Is it over for US air travel?
https://www.wpbf.com/article/equipment-outage-atlanta-international-newark-international-airport/64735962 Should I get le Terne BYB, the Brapton or some other type of folding bike? A few years ago people starting referring to certain China wheelsets as not just "the best Chinese wheels" or "the best budget wheels" but simply "the best wheels". This year, Winspace released the T1600, a CDM (Chinese Domestic Market) product that costs more than a Madone or a Tarmac. It's UCI approved right out of the box (though you may need to tape some lead weights to it to get it to pass the weight restrictions). Western buyers need not apply, though they no doubt will try.
Western brands were folding right and left before the iron curtain 2.0 was raised, now the "tiro de gracia" has been fired and big companies like Trek are going to go bankrupt because their supply chains have been cut off by Import Substitution Industrialization, a popular third world development tactic pioneered by visionaries like Pinochet and Galtieri.
Is this the end of the western bike era? Will tomorrow's dentists settle for nothing less than Chinese bikes on 100% Chinese groupsets? I've never flown to the states before, so I never understood this meme. How are they different to the normal airport security in every other country? I always hear about people bitching about them in particular. Does Bezos have good taste in yacht design? This is my imaginary island country of Regalia.
What kind of transportation would be feasible on this island? I imagined the country as a British colony settled in the early 18th century and gaining its independence after WWII. The population is around 1.8 million, though the overwhelming majority live in the twin cities of Kingsport and Arkham. The interior of the main island is sparsely populated and mountainous, with a few dormant volcanoes.
I'm trying to imagine the rail lines connecting all the cities on the south coast, and the ferry system between Kingsport and Arkham. >no qt 100 lb asian wife that takes our lovely hapa children to school on her mamachari
>all asian women that took an interest in me have a penis and cant bear hapa children How do I psyop myself into liking trains? Any good books/videos/documentaries? I'm really into other methods of transportation/infrastructure and I keep trying to spark that same interest in trains, but I haven't been able to.
Theoretically speaking, if I was an entrepreneuring billionaire and I wanted to bring back one of the great American passenger trains (Super Chief, California Zephyr, Panama Limited, Empire Builder, City of Los Angeles/San Francisco, 20th Century Limited, Broadway Limited, Powhatan Arrow, Coast Daylight, etc.) to run on a regular basis (let's put it at at least two times a month for a start), which option would be more feasible from an economic/technical/legal perspective?
1. Acquire all of the surviving rolling stock (sleepers, dining cars, dome/observation cars, baggage cars, etc.) from the original consist from private owners, heritage railways, and museums, as well as matching surviving locomotives (can be from ones different railroads since thousands of functionally and aesthetically identical EMD F and E units were sold to all Class I railroads). Renovate them as necessary to make them FRA-compliant, obtain waivers wherever possible. Put them into service as a part-luxury train, part-mobile museum.
2. Commission the construction of a replica consist. Building entirely new streamlined cars from scratch, designed to match the internal and external appearance of its original as much as possible, with changes only being made when it's literally required to make the car FRA-compliant/modern user friendly (updated wiring, HEP, power outlets at seats, WiFi support, replacing wooden paneling with MDF paneling etc.). Motive power consists of custom-built Siemens Chargers designed to resemble the original E and F units (streamlining, bulldog noses, matching paint schemes, etc.) as much as legally possible.

>In Caltrain’s transition from diesel to electric, the transit agency opened a new online store featuring a variety of branded merchandise. In addition to holiday sweaters and exclusive boxed models of the new electric train, a much larger commodity is up for sale: the “Caltrain EMD F40PH-2 Locomotive (Used).”
>“These gently used, lovingly maintained 1985 F40 diesel locomotives could be yours,” the listing states. “The historic locomotives come with 40 years of service, and more than 1,000,000 miles traveled. Perfect for your model train set, train-themed diners, ornamental lawn decor or planter box, unconventional bed n breakfast or just to show up your overly gnomed neighbor’s lawn.”
> When Caltrain completes its electrification project with full service Sept. 21, it will retire most of its diesel fleet. Almost 100 gallery cars will likely be sold to another operator, said Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman, and the locomotives are being split up by age.
>Nine newer diesel locomotives will remain in use for the Gilroy service, which isn’t undergoing electrification because Caltrain doesn’t own that portion of the corridor. However, Caltrain has 20 diesel locomotives that have passed their expected retirement dates and will no longer be operational.
>These older trains might be scrapped, Lieberman said, but first, Caltrain wanted to give rail fans the opportunity to bring them home and make something out of them.
>The engine must be disabled and the buyer must cover the costs of storage and transportation, according to the listing. The locomotives will officially go up for auction in October.

I am currently using a xiaomi smart band 9 to track my rides (so thats GPS from phone + HR from band), I start and end the ride from the band and the app automatically transfers the route, speed and heart rate to strava
I am wondering if I should upgrade to a bike computer cus I am not worried about how much calories I burn nowadays, as I got the idea of it. I just want to know how far I went and how long it took me, and to keep track of cadence so I learn to ride optimally
I have been looking at XOSS G2+ (pic related) with 2 sensors - one for cadence on crank and other on rear hub for speed (rotation)
my questions about bike computers in general are:
>do the bike computer accessories (cadence, speed, HR) connect to it, or to the phone
>does only the bike computer connect to your phone and stay connected constantly, or only to transfer data to strava or an app once the ride finishes?
>can I just get on my bike and ride, and the bike computer will then automatically upload my ride to strava once I am done?
>can I still use my xiaomi band 9 to measure my HR? will I be able to see my HR on the screen? or the bike computer only connects to HR sensors and not other "smart" devices
>should I get a bike computer with an actual screen to show maps/route?
>should I even get a bike computer to begin with, I am riding actual gravel and trails, basically exploring my region on weekends and driving 2-3 times to work a week, will the sensors and shit survive the rough terrain?

They can't keep getting away with it! Today, Bay Area Rapid Transit formally retired the last of its original rolling stock that had been in service since the system opened in 1972. The occasion was marked by speeches from BART officials and a farewell excursion between McArthur and Fremont (where the very first train had run on September 11, 1972). I was there and rode the last train. Is Allegiant a better low cost airline than Southwest, or is it just as crummy as Frontier and Spirit? Why were they ever scrapped?
They're efficient, pleasant to ride in and far cheaper than a tram network to set up or maintain. With new and improved battery technology, flexibility can be maximised and disruption mitigated.
Their hill-climbing ability is unmatched by the majority of public transit modes. Acceleration is better than diesel buses and energy from braking can be recovered.
With all the net-zero, carbon neutral initiatives, surely transit agencies should be clamouring for them? Don't fuck with SEPTA bus

what even is the point? I've noticed lots of bus drivers get really frustrated at bad drivers and passengers being time inefficient. Since they all basically drive in big circles with no 'destination' and work hours are strictly limited in my country it seems a bit odd. My town wants to be like Tokyo How in the fuck are they pulling this shit off? These commies are making us look like clowns! What is the reason for this?! Just bought a trek marlin 7 gen 3 that was on sale for $479 at my local trek store. Got it mainly to commute to work in my city but to also hit some light trails every now and then. What kind of upgrades would /n/ recommend to make this a more comfortable ride for commuting in the city? I just ordered some better handle bars, pedals and a new saddle so that should help a bit. Was thinking of getting some new tires better suited for the road but not sure which ones. How do these large cargo backpacks compare with a bicycle trailer? I need to haul 100kg of cargo on a bicycle It disgusts me how today's so-called "cycling activists" are doing the work of the automotive lobby while thinking that they're the good guys.
Imagine if a bunch of politicians started pushing for a special residential area for a certain group, after having them habitually assaulted with weapons for many years. "We're terribly sorry about all the bloodshed but can't guarantee your safety, if you want to be safe, you have to go in this special place we designated for you".
That is what bike lanes are. We've tried "separate but equal". It doesn't work, because tyranny of the majority means a highly flexible definition of "equal".
People who have been riding bikes for many decades know what the game is. But zoomers and corona cyclists believe they know best. Instead of demanding justice, they demand segregation. Which is exactly what the automotive supremacists want. post friendly trains or trams
A 17-year-old German teen has been living life as a modern nomad, leaving his parents’ house to live on trains and travel all over his country.
While most 17-year-olds are only just beginning to consider the idea of leaving the nest, Lasse Stolley has already been on his own for over a year and a half. Convinced that his school studies were already behind him, he convinced his parents to allow him to leave their home in Fockbek, Schleswig-Holstein to embark on a unique train-hopping adventure. It took a lot of convincing, but they eventually agreed, and for the last year and a half, the German teen has essentially been living on trains, traveling all over his home country, working as a self-employed coder during the day, and sleeping on night trains at night.
“I’ve been living on the train as a digital nomad for a year and a half now,” Lasse told Business Insider. “At night I sleep on the moving Intercity Express (ICE) train and during the day I sit in a seat, at a table and work as a programmer, surrounded by many other commuters and passengers. I travel from one end of the country to the other. I’m exploring the whole of Germany.”
He gave into his wanderlust in 2022, selling most of his possessions and packing what was left in a 36-liter backpack that he has been carrying with him ever since. Minimalism and resisting the urge to acquire new stuff are an essential part of his lifestyle, as he needs to take everything with him wherever he goes. It’s not always easy, but he has found a way to make it work.

Let's not count our chickens before they hatch, but I'm tentatively feeling hopefully about this. During the time that the last thread was up, hundreds of people were killed by ebike fires. We need to put a stop to this. I just hope they make sure to add prison time for people caught with unlicensed ebikes. Here is mine:

No need for power meter connectivity, cadence sensor, heart rate monitor or any other trimmings.
Does such product exist? Not very keen on paying €300+ for a bunch of stuff I don't need. GPS used to be fancy, and is now affordable
Carbon frames used to be fancy, and are now affordable
Carbon aero wheels used to be fancy, and are now affordable
Hydraulic brakes used to be fancy, and are now affordable
Wireless shifting used to be fancy, and is now affordable
Good tires used to not even exist, and are now available albeit a little expensive
Lighting used to be heavy and annoying, now it clips to anything and you can light up the road with something the size of your thumb
Wide range cassettes used to be unimaginable, now some lazy people are even going 1x because they got filtered by 2x
It seems like it's all been done. Seriously, what's left. What else is there to improve? We even got bonuses like thru-axle, 3d printed saddles, internal routed everything, and aero frames/cockpits, which let's be honest, you weren't really expecting were you?
Can the cycling industry outdo itself or is it now a plateau of stagnation? how should you store smaller items (phone, keys, etc) while riding a bike? assuming your clothes don't have secure pockets These faggots should be strictly restricted to class F airspace, with well defined dimension and NEVER EVER LEFT OUT, sick and tired of avoiding them. If steel is so great, why do the finest steel bikes in the world use carbon forks?
It seems to me that steel has an aesthetic value that cannot be substituted by anything else, but as a material for building bikes, its value decreases the more that is demanded of a component. another one down in Philly boys, reports say fatalities on the ground Does this ever not look gay?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cgq1pwjlqq2t Trains and Railroad systems kept expanding to the point where city networks had railroads just as expansive as those of existing 21st Century automobile roads.
Imagine a railroad on every street and court Why are you destroying the environment with your discount bargain bin chinese carbon wheels with no warranty, when you could be saving the environment with the revolutionary new FusionFiber™ that come with a lifetime, no questions asked replacement coverage for the original owner? Sure it costs about 3x as much but think of the moral superiority it gets you
The only problem is it's made in Utah which is full of crazy people, which kinda negates the moral superiority, I'd almost rather send money directly to the CCP at that point
Also discuss wheels and stuff What is the intent behind statements like "I'm not a cyclist, I'm just a person who gets around by bike"?
At a surface level it is obviously meant to (proverbially) throw other cyclists under the bus, but to what end? Would it somehow appease the anti-bike people if the person "blocking traffic" didn't agree to be referred to by the word "cyclist"? >puts Surly out of business
>The San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway (reporting mark SDAE) is a short-line American railroad founded in 1932 as the successor to the San Diego and Arizona Railway (SD&A), which was founded in 1906 by entrepreneur John Spreckels. Dubbed "The Impossible Railroad" by many engineers of its day due to the immense logistical challenges involved, the line was established in part to provide San Diego with a direct rail link to the east by connecting with the Southern Pacific Railroad lines in El Centro, California.
>the railroad has a checkered history, with periodic disruptions in service to rockslides, storms, fires, and derailments, and has never been profitable
>the line ceased being used in its entirety decades ago and has been bounced around by owner to owner ever since
>at present, only a fraction of the line in San Diego, Mexico, and Campo is actively used, with the rest being left to decay
Here's my questions:
1. Were the "Impossible Railroad's" issues inherent to the climate and terrain, or more so the technological/economic limitations at the time of its construction (the railroad was built with anachronistic infrastructure such as wooden trestles)?
2. If funding could secured, would it be possible to rehabilitate or even rebuild the line in its entirety using modern engineering techniques to negate the hazards that plagued its previous incarnations?
3. What services could be provided to make the line economical, or even turn an actual profit? Obviously there's tourism, Carrizo Gorge attracts thousands of tourists a year (many of whom come to gawk at the ruins of the railway). I recently found out that the Mexican portion of the line is used to host the Tijuana-Tecate Tourist Train (pic related, several gallery cars that were originally intended for it but ultimately left unused) and has proven quite popular. But I'm also wondering industries could be served or even if a US-Mexico commuter service would be feasible (ignoring current diplomatic issues) What would be the feasibility (both from a business and legal standpoint) of a cruise line building ships made to outwardly resemble classic ocean liners but with fully modernized interiors? Say Cunard decided they wanted their next cruise ship to mocked up with four funnels and a profile resembling the Lusitania-class or Aquitania, could they get away with it?
No, Titanic II doesn’t count, be serious.
Pic related, the MS Dixie II based out of Lake Tahoe, a ship with the outward appearance of a 19th Century Mississippi River paddle steamer, but was built in 1996 and uses a modern motor engine. this is a fishbus, this really exists and is used by the FBI to transport busses (the fishbus is really huge) I am a railway fan from Moscow. In my free time, I make videos of trains, subways, and transportation. Ask questions about my activities, and the transport of my country, stereotypes, in general, everything that is interesting, I will try to answer.
Whoever was in control of MH370 took extreme measures to avoid detection after deviating from the scheduled flight plan. Maneuvering the aircraft at the exact moment of ATC handoff, choosing a route that avoided military controlled airspace ,disconnecting SATCOM systems and disabling power control to run off the APU to avoid system rebooting , among other direct inputs shows an incredible knowledge of aircraft communication and aerospace detection methods. I think it's obvious who did this, and it was no doubt planned.
If the pilot's job was to kill a specific target on the flight, it would have been incredibly easy to cause an aerodynamic stall and crash the aircraft into the ocean. He could have even pitched the aircraft into the Indian ocean after leaving radar range, yet WISPR data shows the aircraft flew for over 7 hours until it was ditched in an incredibly remote location.
The question which should be asked is what or who on board the flight to Beijing needed to disappear (and also be completely un-investigatable) why was a regular crash not sufficient to accomplish this goal, and who benefits from an unrecoverable aircraft accident? Boeing cancelled the X-66 demonstrator.
Thoughts? Hey guys, I need advice to buy a new bicycle for commuting to work (and also start delivering after work)
I've been using pic related for a year or so now and it was pretty comfy, but I realized that parts and replacements for that kind of bike are rare and very expensive for some reason
To the point that I think is better to just buy a new bike and just forget about it, I have like 300 bucks so maybe I get a cheap fixed gear or single speed since I liked that kind of bike
But do you think I could get a gravel bike with my budget? what bike do you recommend me?
The US Airways Flight 1549 'Miracle on the Hudson' was a great news day and Sullenberger warranted praise for DOING IT RIGHT, but I can't shake the feeling that in order not to 'sully' a good story, we've been bullshitted to and handwaved about Doreen Walsh opening the rear door allowing water to enter the cabin.
I can totally understand someone panicking under those circumstances, and also understand she was injured and otherwise traumatised by the water landing. Nobody would go that hard on her if she forgot her training and didn't look through the window before cracking the door.
What I can't abide is the possibility this bitch lied about checking for water as per her training, then "some passenger" pushing past her and cracking the door, along with some heroic story of fighting them off to try to close it again. There were witnesses who claimed otherwise:
>No [attorney Frank Scudere] said, he and others saw the flight attendant open the rear door. "Nobody was there to rush past her to open the door. I saw her back turned, and she was opening the door, and she said, 'Oh my God, we're in water!' I don't want to be critical. She hadn't gotten any warning that we'd be landing in the water. I just want to set the record straight."
More accurately I can't abide the apparent lack of curiosity about the fucking truth. Sure the NTSB did their investigation, but as far as I can tell they didn't conclude anything about the identity of the 'some passenger', or whether Doreen lied. Just giving some waffle praising the crew in general and basically saying all's well that ends well.
This is from an organisation the will dredge up literally a million parts from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and reassemble them in a hanger to find which $2 bolt failed. But we're not interested if your stewardess is going to freak out when it counts, endanger everyone on board, and then lie about it? Not worried that even a female 'some passenger' could overpower them and open the door? https://youtu.be/Cq1kV6V_jvI
Thoughts on the Dutch using Klinkers instead of asphalt for their streets? The Dutch seem to have an edge on anything transportation-wise compared to the US. Technically they are like a train but vertical How is this guy alive? First one or two videos I watched, I thought he was just going for (You)s but they just get worse and worse. The only way this makes sense is if he has terminal cancer and he wants to die riding a bike and not in a hospital bed.
Last April, a company called Dreamstar Lines announced plans for an overnight service between Los Angeles and San Francisco, in effect, restoring Southern Pacific's Lark service, the overnight equivalent of the more famous Coast Daylight, which ceased service in 1968.
What we know:
>the train would run between Los Angeles Union Station and San Francisco's 4th & King Street Caltrain station
>rolling stock will consist of streamliner cars built in the 1940s and 1950s
>actual train consist would be a locomotive, 5-6 sleeper cars, and a lounge car serving drinks and "tavern food" (idk what that would entail)
>the train would run on a ten-and-a-half hour schedule, departing around 10pm and arrive at its final destination at 8:30am
>Tickets will be in the $300-$1000 (the minimum is slightly higher than the current price for a private room on Los Angeles-Oakland on Amtrak's Coast Starlight at $284)
>there will be no coach service, sleeper class only
>the company hopes to begin operations by Summer, 2024
>the project is far enough along that negotiations with Metrolink and Union Pacific for right of way have already started

What do you /n/iggers think? Is the LARK finally back? Or is this all just a big LARP? What are some examples of urban freeways just being removed? How did it affect traffic flow? When you see it
Previous: >>1781074 in 2026 Iran enters heavy the international aviation transportation market. Main routes are in Central and South Asia, Indian and North African areas. New Talks about heavy transport, long range airplane developed in Russia and China started. With this new air traffic with up to 40% less costs can be developed parallel to the Western airlines. Can we implement congestion pricing in basically any American city?
I used to think you needed a downtown that was segmented from the rest of the city via a waterway (like South Beach Miami or San Francisco or Manhattan), but now I'm thinking you can just employ it on any urban freeway.
Also, is there any reason NOT to use congestion pricing? It seems like the only way to fund urban freeways. It's been tried and tested in several countries around the world.
I've been riding a hybrid bike for my errands and short transportation within the city. However as I just learned to ride a bicycle this year I'm still a beginner and still having problems especially if there are lots of cars passing by. There are no protected bike lanes in my city and there are cases wherein I worry I might lose balance and a car or motorcycle might hit me.
So I'm thinking of getting a city bike like this Elops 120 to replace my hybrid bike since I read they are easier to balance and are more stable overall. They also have a bike rack and due to the upright position, more comfortable especially for a beginner rider like me.
However someone told me it would be better to just stick with my bike or get a mountain bike because I will outgrow a city bike after a year. Also my city is full of potholes and speedbumps that aren't comfortable with a city bike. Also there are steep inclines here that I won't be able to climb due to lower number of gears and also since it is a heavier bike overall. I also don't need to spend anything if I just stick to this bike.
All advice are appreciated. A few days ago, The SunRail board approved a $6M environmental study for a Sunshine Corridor expansion with Brightline.
Notably, this is for the northern route alternative with a stop at the convention center and south I-drive. The other cheaper alternative of a route along SR417 with a stop only at Disney has seemingly been shelved.
This environmental study is the first step in the building process encompassing ROW design considerations, environmental effects, and crucially, securing federal funding.
No funding strategy announced yet, but it's safe to say a generous amount of federal grants will be necessary to get this built in any reasonable amount of time, which might be an issue with the current administration.
Discuss? Do we like the route? Happy to see this get built finally?
I've been getting into the steelisreal, rim brakes are good enough side of youtube lately, and the clickbait has gotten me thinking about my next bike. How much truth do you think there is to these memes that say that high end steel isn't like the cheap shit I think of when I think of steel? I refuse to consider cantis and if I get disc steel I'm told that's no better than carbon because it's "overbuilt" at that point which "defeats the purpose". So it has to be dual pivot classic road frame made of thin walled fairy tubing, and no I will not elaborate because we all know why.
So it looks like if I'm not too hung up on getting a name brand duende meme bike I can probably pick up what looks like a pretty good steel frame for under $3k. Possibly even less. But then I'd really have to go with some pretty narrow, hard, puncture-prone tires, and I just don't have the energy for that shit. I haven't struggled with inner tubes and frame pumps in pelting ice cold rain by the side of the road in years and I like it that way, latex blood runs through my veins. But TPU was invented, and that's caused me to begin doubting my faith.
Would I be consumed with post-purchase rationalization if I fell for the steel meme? Are steel bikes and rim brakes the cast iron of bikes? Opinionated attention whores who need to have something to argue about at all times so they pick the most argumentative pointless crap that has a grain of truth that gets overemphasized at the expense of the big picture? Or is there something to this memery?
Before you start your angry typing, I am a mamil with crabon and aero and absolute black and all that stuff, so please, be accurate with your strawmanning. I can supply some other personal aspects of myself if you wish to find something to be aggressive about but I trust I have given you enough information to get irrationally angry over bicycles.
European aerospace giant Airbus has revealed a new design for its upcoming fully electric, hydrogen-powered ZEROe aircraft. powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
The single-aisle plane now has four engines, rather than six, each powered by their own fuel cell stack.
The reworked design comes after the news that the ZEROe will be in our skies later than Airbus hoped.
The plan was to launch a zero-emission aircraft by 2035, but now the next-generation single-aisle aircraft is slated to enter service in the second half of the 2030s.
Airbus has spent years evaluating different hydrogen propulsion methods, including turbofan, turboprop, and blended-wing body designs using hydrogen combustion.
After extensive research and testing, the company has selected fuel cell technology as the best option.
Unlike combustion engines, hydrogen fuel cells generate electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, producing only water as a byproduct.
These engines will receive hydrogen from two liquid hydrogen tanks, stored cryogenically at extremely low temperatures.
Airbus believes this setup will provide the most efficient and scalable solution for future hydrogen-powered commercial aviation.
>https://interestingengineering.com/transportation/airbus-unveils-new-hydrogen-airplane?group=test_a Is riding on top end groupsets if you're not a top end cyclist stolen valor? Or is this sour grapes?
What groupset would you ride if you could get any groupset you wanted for free, but when/if you sold the bike you would have to price it as whatever groupset you ride now. That is, if your financial circumstances were no different and you were subject to the same "rules" as you currently as in terms of other people judging (because we all know unlimited wealth begets shamelessness), what do you choose? Now I can finally ask these questions...
I'm fit, so I don't really need this, but something for transport would be nice.
Friction drives, what of them? Is there any practicality to having one on each wheel? Is the wheelspin sick? What's the fastest detachable models money can buy? I'm looking for electric.
I'd imagine they could be detached when they run out of juice, like those clip-on ones I've seen. Not so sure they make those anymore. Regardless, sounds a lot better than pedaling against a dead alternator.
What do you know of their might, anons? Do you guys ever have conversations with other people on public transportation, or try picking up girls there?
>yet another day riding the subway sharing a car with plenty of cute girls, normal looking guys, and never make conversation with anyone to try to make friends or get a date
